17. Catalysis of Quantum Chain Photoisomerizations: Calculations of Triplet Energy Surfaces and Measurements of Quantum Yields
Abstract : Triplet state cis-trans photoisomerizations of olefins is the theme of this thesis, and the goal is to make the isomerizations as efficient as possible. The shape of the triplet potential energy surface (T1 PES) is essential for this, and the possibility of calculating these T1 PESs for two smaller olefins, using the computationally inexpensive density functional theory (DFT) methods, was investigated. 18. Asymmetric Formation and Isomerization of Three-Membered Rings : Catalyst Development and Evaluation
Abstract : Enantiopure α-amino acid derivatives were prepared using a protocol which allows for highly controlled regio- and chemoselectivity in the hydrogenation/ hydrogenolysis of aza-Diels-Alder adducts. One of the resulting α-amino esters, (1S,3R,4R)-2-azabicyclo[2.2.1]heptane-3-carboxylic acid ethyl ester, was utilized further as a catalyst precursor. READ MORE

19. Femtosecond Dynamics of Dissociation and Isomerization Reactions in Solutions
Abstract : The main purpose of this work has been to investigate the fundamental dynamics of photodissociation and photo-induced isomerization reactions in the condensed phase. These "elementary" reactions have been chosen as model processes for exploring the influence of the solvent on a chemical event, as well as the factors that control this influence. READ MORE

20. Catalytic reactions with palladium supported on mesocellular foam : Applications in hydrogenation, isomerization, and C-C bond forming reactions
Abstract : The major part of this thesis concerns the development of catalytic methodologies based on palladium nanoparticles immobilized on aminopropyl-functionalized siliceous mesocellular foam (Pd0-AmP-MCF). The catalytic activity of the precursor to the nanocatalyst, PdII-AmP-MCF is also covered by this work. READ MORE
