1. Mirror Nuclei - Isospin Symmetry Breaking in the Mass A=35 and A=51 Mirror Nuclei
Abstract : High-spin states in the A=35 mirror nuclei 35Ar and 35Cl and A=51 mirror nuclei 51Fe and 51Mn were populated using fusion-evaporation reactions. The gamma rays were detected in the powerful Ge arrays Gammasphere and GASP, respectively, which operated in conjunction with ancillary detectors for evaporated particles. READ MORE

3. A Trilogy of Mass A=61 : Superdeformed Structures, Exotic Decay, and Isospin Symmetry
Abstract : Three nuclei with mass number A=61 have been studied using four fusion-evaporation experiments carried out at the Oak Ridge, Argonne and Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratories. Normally deformed states in 61Ga were for the first time ever explored and in addition the experimental knowledge of the mirror nucleus 61Zn was extended. READ MORE

4. Nuclear symmetry energy and neutron-proton pair correlations in microscopic mean field theory
Abstract : A major task of nuclear structure theory is to develop an effective interaction that is capable to predict properties of nuclei under extreme conditions. In this thesis three different areas of effective interactions have been studied: i) the density dependence, which is of importance for the understanding of neutron stars and neutron rich nuclei; ii) the symmetry energy which governs the evolution of the binding energy with changing N/Z ratio; and iii) the neutron proton pairing energy. 5. Multi-Meson Dynamics in Chiral Perturbation Theory
Abstract : This thesis concerns scattering of light mesons in the case where the number of external particles exceeds four (that is, three or more particles in the initial or final state), calculated using chiral perturbation theory. This is both of theoretical interest in the study of scattering amplitudes, and relevant for systems of three or more pions simulated using lattice quantum chromodynamics.
