  2. 2. Immunoglobulin isotype switching in health and disease

    Author : Berivan Baskin; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Immunoglobulin isotype switching is the process where the Cmy region, initially located downstream of the VDJ region is replaced by another constant region gene. Class switch recombination takes place between switch (S) regions, composed of tandem repeats of short unit sequences, located 5 of each CH gene, except for Cdelta. READ MORE

  3. 3. Regulation of Immunoglobulin Isotype Switching and of the Germinal Center Response

    Author : Minghui He; Eva Severinson; Jayanta Chaudhuri; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; immunologi; Immunology;

    Abstract : After stimulation, B cells can undergo two types of genetic alteration in their immunoglobulin (Ig) genes: somatic hypermutation and class switch recombination (CSR), both of which are initiated by activation-induced cytidine deaminase (AID).Although class switching requires cell proliferation, the mechanism is partly unknown. 4. 4. Immunoregulatory differences between adult onset type 1 diabetes and latent autoimmune diabetes in adults (LADA)

    Author : Magnus Hillman; Lund Medicin; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Endokrinologi; sekretion; diabetologi; diabetology; secreting systems; Isotype class switch; Endocrinology; LADA; Autoantibodies; Autoimmunity; Type 1 diabetes;

    Abstract : Autoimmune diabetes is characterized by cell mediated autoimmunity against insulin producing beta cells in pancreatic islets. Type 1 diabetes is the major cause of diabetes in children and adolescents and is believed to be mediated by a Thl driven destruction of beta cells. READ MORE

  5. 5. Type-specific human papillomavirus antibodies : detection, characterization and application in seroepidemiology

    Author : Zhaohui Wang; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : antagonism; antibody; capsids; cervical carcinoma; CIN; epidemiology; HPV; isotype; neutralizing epitope; PCR; STDs; trends over time; VLPs;

    Abstract : Background: Human Papillomavirus (HPV) is a sexually transmitted DNA virus that causes several human cancers, notably cervical and other anogenital cancers. The antibody response to this virus is of interest both because knowledge of the antigenic structures that induce protective immunity forms the basis for prophylactic vaccine development and because it forms the basis of seroepidemiology, the method of choice for studies of HPV infectivity, of HPV spread in populations and of cancer risks following HPV exposure.
