  1. 1. The Development and Evaluation of Hospital Pay-for-Performance in Lebanon: Casemix, Readmissions and Patient Perspectives

    Author : Jade Khalife; Socialmedicin och global hälsa; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Health system; Hospital performance; Pay-for-performance; Evaluation; Patient perspectives; Casemix; Readmissions; Lebanon;

    Abstract : Background: Pay-for-performance (P4P) has been widely used in healthcare, but there are few experiences of hospital-based P4P at scale. The evidence of impact from these has been mixed, and there has been increased recognition of the importance of different contexts, designs, incentives and other factors. READ MORE

  3. 3. Recovery from focal brain ischemia induced by extradural compression in diabetic and non-diabetic rats

    Author : Tiago J T Prazeres Moreira; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Focal ischemia; locomotor activity; lever-press task; neurodegeneration; hyperglycemia; Goto-Kakizaki rats; Fluoro-Jade; heme-oxygenase; astrocytes; microglia.;

    Abstract : Cerebrovascular disease and head trauma are among the leading causes of death and disability. In addition to severe motor disturbances, ischemia resulting from stroke or traumatic brain injury (TBI) can cause mild to severe cognitive deficits. READ MORE

  4. 4. Ischemic brain damage following transient and moderate compression of sensorimotor cortex in Sprague-Dawley and diabetic Goto-Kakizaki rats

    Author : Jurgita Kundrotiené; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Cortical compression; cerebral ischemia; neuroprotection; hyperglycemia; GotoKakizaki rats.;

    Abstract : Several animal models have been developed to facilitate the investigation of biochemical, physiological, and neurological events after cerebral ischemia. In this study we present a new animal model which reliably describes morphological changes and neurological deficits produced by mild to moderate brain ischemia and which can be used to identify novel, potentially useful, neuroprotective agents. 5. 5. Phospholipase A2 in nerve injury and axonal outgrowth

    Author : Marie Hornfelt; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Neurology; cell death; apoptosis; leukotrienes; arachidonic acid; M-type receptor; secretory phospholipase A2; cytosolic phospholipase A2; sciatic nerve; dorsal root ganglia; growth cone; axonal outgrowth; nerve injury; peripheral nerve regeneration; neuropsychology; neurophysiology; Neurologi; neuropsykologi; neurofysiologi; Animal physiology; Djurfysiologi;

    Abstract : This thesis deals with processes coupled to injury in the peripheral nervous system (PNS), with a general aim to investigate the role of phospholipase A2 (PLA2) enzymes in axonal outgrowth. The axonal outgrowth of dorsal root ganglia (DRG) neurons in vitro was reduced by several different inhibitors of PLA2 activity and enhanced by an activator of this enzyme. READ MORE
