1. Experimental studies in jet flows and zero pressure-gradient turbulent boundary layers
Abstract : This thesis deals with the description and development of two classical turbulent shear flows, namely free jet and flat plate turbulent boundary layer flows. In both cases new experimental data has been obtained and in the latter case comparisons are also made with data obtained from data bases, both of experimental and numerical origin. READ MORE

2. Turbulent jets in confined spaces : application in mixing ventilation: experimental and numerical studies
Abstract : The basis of mixing ventilation is the airflow supply to the room by means of jets initiatedfrom the ventilation diffusers. To avoid the draught problem, the design of mixing ventilationmakes uses the throw term, which is defined as the distance to the supply air terminal inwhich the jet centreline mean velocity is decreased to a given value. 3. Experimental study of passive scalar mixing in swirling jet flows
Abstract : Despite its importance in various industrial applications there is still a lack of experimental studies on the dynamic and thermal field of swirling jets in the near-field region. The present study is an attempt to close this lack and provide new insights on the effect of rotation on the turbulent mixing of a passive scalar, on turbulence (joint) statistics as well as the turbulence structure. 4. Investigation of jet pulsation effects on near-nozzle mixing and entrainment
Abstract : Turbulent jet flows are very common in engineering applications. One example is that of fuel injection in internal combustion engines, which is closely related to the combustion process. Because of the widespread use, the resulting emissions of such engines have a significant impact on human health and the environment. READ MORE

5. Mixing and Stagnation in Drinking Water Storage Tanks
Abstract : This thesis contributes to studies of the assessment of mixing conditions in drinking water storage tanks and analyses of parameters governing mixing rates and formation of stagnant zones. The work also contributes to a validation of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) models of jet-forced mixing in storage tanks under neutral and thermally stratified conditions. READ MORE
