  1. 1. Refining the fatigue assessment procedure of existing steel bridges

    Author : John Leander; Raid Karoumi; Bert Norlin; John D. Sørensen; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Fatigue; Steel bridges; Assessment; Reliability; Monitoring; Utmattning; stålbroar; bärighetsberäkning; tillförlitlighet; mätningar; Söderström; getingmidjan;

    Abstract : This thesis treats the fatigue assessment process of steel bridges. The purpose is to identify areas with potential of enhancement with an overall aim of attaining a longer service life. The aging bridge stock in Sweden and in many other developed countries is an impending economical burden. READ MORE

  2. 2. Cambro-Ordovician microorganisms: acritarchs and endoliths

    Author : Martin Stockfors; Malgorzata Vidal-Moczydlowska; John S. Peel; Kenneth John Dorning; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Earth sciences; Cambrian; Ordovician; acritarch; endolith; Kolguev Island; North Greenland; Stratigraphy; Geovetenskap; Earth sciences; Geovetenskap;

    Abstract : Organic-walled microfossils are abundant and taxonomically diverse in Cambrian-Ordovician strata; some are important for biostratigraphy and for the correlation of geological successions. New assemblages of Cambrian-Ordovician acritarchs from Kolguev Island, Arctic Russia and Middle Cambrian ichnofossils of endoliths from Peary Land, North Greenland are studied. READ MORE

  3. 3. Low Temperature Austenite Decomposition in Carbon Steels

    Author : Albin Stormvinter; Annika Borgenstam; John Ågren; Peter Hedström; John G. Speer; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Carbon steels; Electron backscattered diffraction; Martensite; Microscopy; Microstructure; Thermodynamic modeling;

    Abstract : Martensitic steels have become very important engineering materials in modern society. Crucial parts of everyday products are made of martensitic steels, from surgical needles and razor blades to car components and large-scale excavators. READ MORE

  4. 4. Simulation of diffusional processes in alloys : techniques and applications

    Author : Henrik Strandlund; John Ågren; John Morral; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Diffusion; Kirkendall effect; Phase transformations; Random walk; Solute drag; Interfacial mobility; Other materials science; Övrig teknisk materialvetenskap;

    Abstract : This thesis concerns computer simulation of diffusional processes in alloys. The main focus is on the development of simulation techniques for diffusion in single-phase domains, but also diffusion controlled phase-transformations and interfacial processes are discussed. READ MORE

  5. 5. Data-driven Approaches to Uncertainty Modelling for SLAM in the Open Sea

    Author : Ignacio Torroba; John Folkesson; Patric Jensfelt; John Leonard; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Datalogi; Computer Science;

    Abstract : Autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs) equipped with multibeam echo-sounders have become indispensable tools for bathymetric mapping due to their ability to reach seabed regions inaccessible to surface vessels. However, the closer proximity to the survey area comes at the expense of a growing error in the AUV global pose estimate due to the lack of prior maps or a geo-referencing system underwater, such as GPS.
