  1. 1. Top quarks at the Tevatron : Measurements of the top quark production and decay with the D0 experiment

    Author : Jonas Strandberg; Barbro Åsman; Michael Albrow; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; elementary particle physics; D0; Tevatron; top quark; Physics; Fysik;

    Abstract : This thesis presents two measurements of the top quark using 230 pb-1 of data taken with the D0 detector at the Tevatron accelerator. The first measurement determines the top pair production cross section at sqrt(s)=1.96 TeV in proton-antiproton collisions. READ MORE

  2. 2. Taking a Bite out of Diversity - Taxonomy and systematics of biting midges

    Author : Jonas Strandberg; Kjell Arne Johanson; Urban Olsson; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Ceratopogonidae; Dasyhelea; barcoding; COI; phylogeny Sweden; Forcipomyia; Bezzia; Palpomyia; Degen1; Systematic Zoology; zoologisk systematik och evolutionsforskning;

    Abstract : The biting midges (family Ceratopogonidae) is one of the most species rich amongst the biting flies (Diptera) and has been recorded from most parts of the world. The species are mostly known for their capability to act as vectors for several important diseases, which have helped in shaping the focus to one of its genera, Culicoides Latreille, 1809. READ MORE

  4. 4. A search for Supersymmetry in final states with two same-flavor opposite-sign leptons, jets and missing transverse momentum with the ATLAS detector

    Author : Giulia Ripellino; Bengt Lund-Jensen; Strandberg Jonas; Mikko Voutilainen; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; ATLAS; LHC; supersymmetry; Fysik; Physics;

    Abstract : This thesis presents a search for Supersymmetry in final states containing two same-flavor opposite-sign leptons, jets and large missing transverse momentum. The search makes use of 36.1 fb−1 of proton-proton collision data collected at a center-of-mass energy of √s = 13 TeV by the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. READ MORE

  5. 5. Haystacks and Needles : Measuring the number of proton collisions in ATLAS and probing them for the production of new exotic particles

    Author : Giulia Ripellino; Jonas Strandberg; Gabriella Pasztor; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Atomic; Subatomic and Astrophysics; Atomär fysik; subatomär fysik och astrofysik;

    Abstract : This thesis describes my work on the ATLAS luminosity measurement and on two searches for physics beyond the Standard Model, performed using √s = 13 TeV proton-proton (pp) collision data recorded by the ATLAS detector at CERN during Run 2 of the LHC in the years 2015-2018ATLAS employs several detectors and methods to measure the relative luminosity and the absolute scale is determined using van der Meer scans during dedicated low-luminosity running periods in each year. The thesis presents the details of the track-counting method which is used to extrapolate the calibration to the high-luminosity physics data-taking regime. READ MORE
