  1. 1. Ion Beam Analysis of First Wall Materials Exposed to Plasma in Fusion Devices

    Author : Per Petersson; Göran Possnert; Anders Hallén; Marek Rubel; Eduardo C. Alves; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Ion beam analysis; Microbeam; Plasma wall interaction; Deuterium; Beryllium; Carbon fibre composites; Divertor; Nuclear reaction analysis; Helium-3; Plasma physics with fusion; Plasmafysik med fusion; Ion Physics; Jonfysik;

    Abstract : One major step needed for fusion to become a reliable energy source is the development of materials for the extreme conditions (high temperature, radioactivity and erosion) caused by hot plasmas. The main goal of the present study is to use and optimise ion beam methods (lateral resolution and sensitivity) to characterise the distribution of hydrogen isotopes that act as fuel. READ MORE

  2. 2. Accelerator Mass Spectrometry of 36Cl and 129I : Analytical Aspects and Applications

    Author : Vasily Alfimov; Göran Possnert; Ala Aldahan; Hans-Arno Synal; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Environmental technology; Accelerator Mass Spectrometry; iodine-129; chlorine-36; gas-filled magnet; radioactive tracer; Arctic Ocean; Nordic Seas; North Atlantic; thermohaline circulation; Sellafield; La Hague; Miljöteknik; Environmental engineering; Miljöteknik;

    Abstract : Two long-lived halogen radionuclides (36Cl, T1/2 = 301 kyr, and 129I, T1/2 = 15.7 Myr) have been studied by means of Accelerator Mass Spectrometry (AMS) at the Uppsala Tandem Laboratory. The 36Cl measurements in natural samples using a medium-sized tandem accelerator (~1 MeV/amu) have been considered. READ MORE

  3. 3. Anthropogenic 129I Traced in Environmental Archives by Accelerator Mass Spectrometry

    Author : Edvard Englund; Göran Possnert; Ala Aldahan; José María López-Gutiérrez; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Engineering physics; iodine-129; sediment; aerosol; reprocessing; Chernobyl; nuclear weapon; Sellafield; La Hague; accelerator mass spectrometry; AMS; Teknisk fysik;

    Abstract : Since the beginning of the nuclear era, starting during the 1940s, large amount of radioactivity has been released into the environment. This thesis deals with the temporal and spatial distribution of the anthropogenic radioisotope 129I (T1/2= 15.7 Myr) in northern Europe. READ MORE

  4. 4. High Rate Electron Capture Dissociation Fourier Transform Ion Cyclotron Resonance Mass Spectrometry

    Author : Youri Tsybin; Per Håkansson; Ron M.A. Heeren; Uppsala universitet; []
