  1. 11. Kinetic chain weight training, strength assessment, and functional performance testing: with reference to sports and rehabilitation

    Author : Jesper Augustsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; open kinetic chain; closed kinetic chain; weight training; strength assessment; functional tests; anterior cruciate ligament; reconstruction; fatigue;

    Abstract : The overall purpose of the studies was to obtain knowledge about physical performance in healthy individuals and patients after anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction. Data are presented that concerns closed and open kinetic chain exercise, adaptive response to weight training, the methodology of muscle strength assessment, and the development of a functional testing protocol performed under conditions of fatigue. 2. 12. The normal and ACL deficient knee : an in vivo three dimensional kinematic and electromyographic analysis

    Author : Dan K Ramsey; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Knee; Tibia; Femur; Tibiofemoral contact points; Tibiofemoral kinematics; Anterior cruciate ligament; ACL injury; Knee brace; Knee instability; Bone pin; Magnetic resonance imaging; NM; Neuromuscular adaptation; Electromyography.;

    Abstract : The overall aim of this thesis was to describe the in-vivo 3D kinematics of the normal and ACL deficient knee. Baseline data from normal controls were compared against the pathological knee to assess whether generic functional knee braces reduced abnormal displacements. Moreover, 3D bony contact movements were derived from MRI data. READ MORE

  3. 13. Tracking the Wanders of Nature

    Author : Clas Veibäck; Gustaf Hendeby; Fredrik Gustafsson; Hans Driessen; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Target Tracking; Sensor Fusion; Motion Models; Animals; Cameras; Radar;

    Abstract : Target tracking is a mature topic with over half a century of mainly military and aviation research. The field has lately expanded into a range of civilian applications due to the development of cheap sensors and improved computational power. READ MORE

  4. 14. On methods of evaluation of lower extremity eccentric muscle performance and loading

    Author : Pär Westblad; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Biomechanics; eccentric; electromyography; isokinetic; methods; muscle endurance; pilot projects; reproducibility of results; strain; thigh; tibia.;

    Abstract : This investigation has developed and evaluated methods for measuring eccentric muscle function and loading of the human lower extremity, including isokinetic tests of knee extensor muscle performance and a comprehensive in vivo method for conditions of functional loading. For measurement of knee extensor muscle performance, a protocol of 100 repetitive maximal actions at 90° was applied using a Biodex isokinetic dynamometer. READ MORE
