  1. 16. Assessment of precursor cell proliferation in normal and injured adult mammalian brains

    Author : Hong Zhu; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : 6-OHDA; astrocytes; cell proliferation; neural stem cells; ; neurogenesis; precursor cells; seizure; SVZ-OB pathway;

    Abstract : In the adult mammalian brain, new neurons are generated from neural stem cells (NSCs) which reside in the subventricular zone (SVZ) of the lateral ventricle wall and in the subgranular zone (SGZ) of the dentate gyrus (DG) in the hippocampus. The biology of persistent NSCs in the adult brain is poorly understood. READ MORE

  2. 17. On Nogo signaling regulation

    Author : Alexandra Trifunovski; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Nogo; Nogo receptor; regulation; neurotrophin; Lingo-1; p75NTR; Troy; synaptic plasticity;

    Abstract : As neuronal development enters its final stages, axon growth becomes restricted. This lack of regenerative capacity is partly due to the non-permissive environment of growth inhibitory proteins. Three such proteins, Nogo, OMgp and MAG bind to the same receptor, the Nogo receptor (NgR) and induce growth cone collapse and axon growth inhibition. READ MORE

  3. 18. Excitotoxic neurodegeneration in mouse brain : roles of immune cells and cytokines

    Author : Zhiguo Chen; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Excitotoxic neurodegeneration is a common feature in many neurological diseases. However, the roles of immune cells and cytokines in this process are unclear. To address this issue, we used knockout (KO) mice deficient in various immune cells or cytokines in our studies. READ MORE

  4. 19. Inflammation and neurodegeneration in mouse nervous system : experimental application

    Author : Rui-Sheng Duan; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Experimental autoimmune neuritis (EAN) is a CD4+ T cell mediated inflammatory autoimmune disease of peripheral nervous system (PNS) and shares many of clinical, immunological, electrophysiological and morphological characteristics of human Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS). Hence, EAN is considered to represent a useful model for studying the pathogenesis and therapy of human GBS. READ MORE

  5. 20. Role of cytokines in experimental neurodegenerative and neuroinflammatory disorders

    Author : Xing-Mei Zhang; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Altered expression of cytokines in response to body injury has diverse actions that can exacerbate, mediate, reduce or inhibit neuronal and myelin damage as well as influence the disease development in a variety of nervous system disorders, such as Alzheimer s disease (AD), multiple sclerosis and Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS). In these studies, we attempted to explore the possible roles of tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α and interleukin (IL)-18 in experimental neurodegenerative and neuroinflammatory disorders. READ MORE
