16. Ultra-Reliable Short-Packet Communications: Fundamental Limits and Enabling Technologies
Abstract : The paradigm shift from 4G to 5G communications, anticipated to enable ultra-reliable low-latency communications (URLLC), will enforce a radical change in the design of wireless communication systems. Unlike in 4G systems, where the main objective is to provide a large transmission rate, in URLLC, as implied by its name, the objective is to enable transmissions with low latency and, simultaneously, very high reliability. 17. The Key to Intelligent Transportation Systems: Identity and Credential Management for Secure and Privacy-Preserving Vehicular Communication Systems
Abstract : Vehicular Communication (VC) systems can greatly enhance road safety and transportation efficiency and enable a variety of applications providing traffic efficiency, environmental hazards, road conditions and infotainment. Vehicles are equipped with sensors and radars to sense their surroundings and external environment, as well as with an internal Controller Area Network (CAN) bus. READ MORE

19. Synthesis of a key derivative of glycosylphosphatidylinositol substances and synthesis of spacer glycosides for use in the formation of glycoconjugates and of self-assembled monolayer surfaces
Abstract : The first chapter of this thesis describes glycosylation strategies for obtaining derivatives of 2-amino-2-deoxy-a-D-glucopyranosyl-(1-->6)-D-myo-inositol, a key building block for synthesis of glycosylphosphatidylinositol anchor substances and also proposed to be part of a second messenger for insulin. The second chapter describes the synthesis of bifunctional oligoethylene glycol spacers and glycosylation of these for use in formation of glycoconjugates. 20. Past dynamics of a marine-terminating glacier in lower Borgarfjörður, west Iceland - Analyses of glaciotectonic sediments and landforms
Abstract : Large and complete sections through glacial landforms formed in subaqueous environments are rare, impeding our knowledge of their internal composition and the processes responsible for their formation. Following the last deglaciation of the Icelandic Ice Sheet (IIS), a marine-terminating outlet glacier advanced out of the fjord of Borgarfjörður resulting in large-scale glaciotectonic deformation of glaciomarine sediments.
