  1. 6. The essence of living kidney donation

    Author : Annette Lennerling; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : Living kidney donor; Kidney transplantation; Motives; Information; Decision-making; Glomerular filtration rate; Laparoscopic nephrectomy;

    Abstract : Aim Nephrectomy performed on healthy individuals for the purpose of transplantation is an exceptional activity. It confers great responsibilities to the medical staff involved. Potential donors must be carefully informed and assessed with respect to medical and psychosocial aspects. READ MORE

  2. 7. Macula Densa Derived Nitric Oxide and Kidney Function

    Author : Anna Ollerstam; Pontus Persson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cell biology; Nitric oxide; rats; kidney; macula densa cells; tubuloglomerular feedback; renin; angiotensin II; blood pressure; hypertension; renal blood flow; neuronal nirtic oxide synthase; Cellbiologi; Cell biology; Cellbiologi; Physiology; fysiologi;

    Abstract : The kidney is the major organ regulating the extracellular fluid volume and thereby the arterial blood pressure. The neuronal isoform of nitric oxide synthase (nNOS) in the kidney is predominantly located in the macula densa cells. READ MORE

  3. 8. Evaluation of Myocardial Function in Chronic Kidney Disease : A Colour Tissue Velocity Imaging Study

    Author : Shirley Hayashi; Lars-Åke Brodin; Svend Aakhus; KTH; []
    Keywords : Cardiac; Kidney; Tissue; Velocity; MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : In patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD), overhydration, uremic toxins and left ventricular (LV) dyssynchrony are factors that may lead to LV dysfunction and conduction abnormalities and thus contribute to the high cardiac mortality. Colour tissue velocity imaging (TVI) allows a detailed quantitative analysis of cardiac function in CKD patients, opening new possibilities to evaluate longitudinal myocardial motion, rapid isovolumetric events, LV filling pressure and LV synchronicity. 4. 9. Anticoagulants in kidney disease

    Author : Frida Welander; Anders Själander; Henrik Holmberg; Emöke Dimény; Marie Evans; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Anticoagulants; atrial fibrillation; chronic kidney disease; dialysis; DOAC; ischemic stroke; major bleeding; nephrotic syndrome; venous thromboembolism; warfarin.; Medicine; medicin;

    Abstract : Background: Patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) and atrial fibrillation (AF) are at high risk of ischemic stroke. Evidence is lacking if patients with advanced CKD or on dialysis benefit from oral anticoagulants (OAC) as stroke prophylaxis. READ MORE

  5. 10. Cellular and molecular mechanisms of kidney injury and regeneration

    Author : Michelle Kha; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; kidney; injury; regeneration; repair; scattered tubular cells; proximal tubular cells; podocytes; SOX9; HNF4A;

    Abstract : The prevalence of kidney disease is constantly increasing with about 600 million people afflicted globally. Kidney disease may result in end stage renal disease, a condition that requires renal replacement therapy in the form of kidney transplantation or dialysis. READ MORE
