21. Prostasome Modulation of Blood Cascade System and Phosphoprotein Reactions with Focus on Prostate Cancer
Abstract : Prostasomes are extracellularly occurring submicron, membrane-surrounded organelles produced by the epithelial cells of the prostate and present in semen. Their precise physiological role is not known, although some of their properties assign them to important physiological and patho-physiological functions. READ MORE

22. In vitro modelling of tau phosphorylating kinases : emphasis of Cdk5
Abstract : The main hallmarks of Alzheimer’s disease (AD) are extracellular deposits of betaamyloid (Aβ) and intracellular neurofibrillary tangles (NFT) composed of highly phosphorylated tau protein. Abnormal hyperphosphorylation of tau is the most deleterious step in NFT formation making the use of kinase inhibitors an attractive treatment possibility in AD. READ MORE

23. Interleukin-17 in non-allergic airway inflammation
Abstract : Chronic bronchitis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), bronchial asthma and cystic fibrosis are common clinical disorders all characterized by airway neutrophilia. By releasing proteolytic enzymes and free oxygen radicals, neutrophils can contribute to the main features of these diseases such as airway obstruction, hypersecretion and remodelling. READ MORE

24. Purine and Pyrazolopyrimidine Derivatives: Design and Synthesis of Chemical Tools for Biological Applications
Abstract : Purines can be found in a multitude of naturally occurring compounds with a range of functions. This thesis describes the design and synthesis of purines and structurally related pyrazolopyrimidine derivatives intended for biological applications. READ MORE

25. Disease-causing Keratin Mutations and Cytoskeletal Dysfunction in Human Skin : In vitro Models and new Pharmacologic Strategies for Treating Epidermolytic Genodermatoses
Abstract : Epidermolysis bullosa simplex (EBS) and epidermolytic ichthyosis (EI) are rare skin fragility diseases characterized by intra-epidermal blistering due to autosomal dominant-negative mutations in basal (KRT5 or KRT14) and suprabasal (KRT1 or KRT10) keratin genes, respectively. Despite vast knowledge in the disease pathogenesis, the pathomechanisms are not fully understood, and no effective remedies exist. READ MORE
