  1. 1. Star-forming Dwarf Galaxies : Internal motions and evolution

    Author : Thomas Marquart; Nils Bergvall; Janice Lee; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Galaxy; Galaxies; Dynamics; Kinematics; Starburst; Dwarf Galaxies; Blue Compact Galaxies; Star Formation; Galaxy mergers; 3D-Spectroscopy; Spectroscopy; Astronomy; Astronomi;

    Abstract : The study of dwarf galaxies is important in order to better understand the physics of the young universe and how larger galaxies form and evolve. In this work we focus on Blue Compact Galaxies (BCGs) which havemuch enhanced star formation (starbursts), causing blue colours and strong emission line spectra. READ MORE

  2. 2. Stellar kinematics in surveys and simulations

    Author : Daniel Mikkola; Astronomi - Genomgår omorganisation; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Galactic dynamics; stellar dynamics; simulations; Gaia; Galactic dynamics; Stellar kinematics; Numerical simulations; Statistical methods; Solar neighborhood;

    Abstract : We study stellar motions in the Milky Way with N-body simulations and large astrometric samples from ESA's Gaia mission. We identify two kinematic populations for white dwarfs in the Solar neighbourhood. We also investigate the accreted halo and reveal two new structures. READ MORE

  3. 3. Double Poling Incross-Country Skiing : Biomechanical and Physiological Analysis of Sitting and Standing Positions

    Author : Marie Lund Ohlsson; Marko Laaksonen; Jonas Danvind; L. Joakim Holmberg; Anders Eriksson; Mittuniversitetet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; blood lactate concentration; cross-country sit-skiing; impairment; internal kinetics; inverse dynamics simulations; joint reaction forces; kinematics; metabolic rate; musculoskeletal modelling; musculoskeletal efficiency; nordic skiing; oxygen uptake; para-skiing; respiration; skiing efficiency.;

    Abstract : Double poling (DP) is a sub-technique in cross-country skiing that has increased in interest over the last decades, e.g. athletes in cross-country skiing have increased their utilisation of double poling during competitions. READ MORE

  4. 4. Physical Modeling of Brain and Head Kinematics

    Author : Johan Ivarsson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; brain injury; skull base; rotational acceleration; physical models; lateral ventricles; head kinematics; padding materials; sulci; free motion headform; brain kinematics;

    Abstract : The development of head injury criteria and countermeasures for head protection requires understanding of how different factors affect brain and head kinematics. In this thesis, 2D physical models of the human head were developed and used to evaluate how various factors affect brain kinematics during angular head kinematics. READ MORE

  5. 5. Effect of timing training in golf and soccer players : skill, movement organization, and brain activity

    Author : Marius Sommer; Louise Rönnqvist; Charlotte Häger; Nicola Hodges; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Motor timing; rhythmicity; timing training; golf shot; golf swing; kinematics; precision; variability; coordination; movement dynamics; soccer; fMRI; mirror neurons; action observation; cerebellum; perception - action.; Psychology; psykologi;

    Abstract : Background Although trainers and athletes consider ‘good timing skills’ to be critical for optimal sport performance, little is known in regard to how sport-specific skills may benefit from timing training. Thus, assuming that all motor performances are mediated by an internal timing mechanism, enhanced motor timing is expected to have positive effects on both planning and execution of movement performance, and consequently on complex sports actions as golf or soccer.
