  1. 16. Kinematics of the heart : strain and strain-rate using time-resolved three-dimensional phase contrast MRI

    Author : Pernilla Selskog; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : During the cardiac cycle, the myocardium (heart muscle) undergoes large elastic deformations as a consequence of the active muscle contraction along the muscle :fibers and their relaxation, respectively. A four-dimensional (4D) description (three spatial dimensions + time) of the kinematics of the myocardium would bring increased understanding of the mechanical properties of the heart and may be of interest in assessing regional myocardial function. 2. 17. A New Shoulder for the THOR Dummy Intended for Oblique Collisions

    Author : Fredrik Törnvall; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Shoulder; Shoulder range-of-motion; Volunteers; Kinematics; Biofidelity; Post Mortem Human Subjects; THOR; Crash test dummy; Oblique collision;

    Abstract : Offset and oblique frontal car collisions represent a type of crash in which severe and fatal injuries frequently occur. This indicates the importance of having protective systems in vehicles for these types of collisions. READ MORE

  3. 18. Evaluation of Shoulder-Complex Motion in Frontal and Oblique Impact Loadings - A Comparison between Frontal Impact Dummies and the Human Body

    Author : Fredrik Törnvall; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Sled tests; Cadaver; Volunteers; Kinematics; Hybrid III; Static loading; Shoulder range-of-motion; Offset frontal collision; THOR; Shoulder; Biofidelity; Oblique frontal collision; Crash test dummy; Post Mortem Human Subjects PMHS ;

    Abstract : Offset and angled frontal impacts represent a crash type that is more common than full-frontal collisions. Several studies have shown that over 70% of all frontal impacts are offset or oblique. READ MORE

  4. 19. Star-forming Dwarf Galaxies : Internal motions and evolution

    Author : Thomas Marquart; Nils Bergvall; Janice Lee; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Galaxy; Galaxies; Dynamics; Kinematics; Starburst; Dwarf Galaxies; Blue Compact Galaxies; Star Formation; Galaxy mergers; 3D-Spectroscopy; Spectroscopy; Astronomy; Astronomi;

    Abstract : The study of dwarf galaxies is important in order to better understand the physics of the young universe and how larger galaxies form and evolve. In this work we focus on Blue Compact Galaxies (BCGs) which havemuch enhanced star formation (starbursts), causing blue colours and strong emission line spectra. READ MORE

  5. 20. Always on the wing - Fluid dynamics, flight performance and flight behavior of common swifts

    Author : Per Henningsson; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Apus apus; aerodynamics; animal flight; kinematics; vortex wake; digital particle image velocimetry; DPIV; common swift; tracking radar; wind tunnel; migration; roosting flight;

    Abstract : The aerodynamics and kinematics behind the flight of animals are relatively unknown. Although animal flight has been studied for several hundreds of years, it is only in recent time that we have the technical abilities to study the mechanistic basis of animal flight. READ MORE
