1. Adsorption of Metallic Ions onto Chitosan : Equilibrium and Kinetic Studies
Abstract : Equilibrium isotherms and the adsorption kinetics of heavy metals onto chitosan were studied experimentally. Chitosan, a biopolymer produced from crustacean shells, has applications in various areas, particularly in drinking water and wastewater treatment due to its ability to remove metallic ions from solutions. 2. Microstructure and Gelation Behaviour of High Methoxyl and Low Methoxyl Pectin Gels and their Mixtures
Abstract : The objective of this thesis was to explore the functional behaviour of high methoxyl (HM), low methoxyl (LM) and mixed HM/LM pectin gels of different chemical characteristics with emphasis on microstructure and kinetic rheological behaviour. The rheological properties and the structure of pectin gel networks were investigated for pectins under different sucrose, calcium and pH conditions by the means of oscillatory measurements and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). 3. Rate Limiting Factors For Protein Folding
Abstract : Abstract. This thesis describes factors that are rate limiting for the folding of two small proteins, U1A and CI2 which fold without accumulating intermediates. The [GdnHCl] dependencies of the unfolding- and refolding kinetics of U1A display downward curvatures. READ MORE

4. Pharmaceutical cocrystals : formation mechanisms, solubility behaviour and solid-state properties
Abstract : The primary aim of pharmaceutical materials engineering is the successful formulation and process development of pharmaceutical products. The diversity of solid forms available offers attractive opportunities for tailoring material properties. READ MORE

5. Fluid Dynamics of a Wurster-type Fluidized Bed - A Numerical and Experimental Study
Abstract : The fluid dynamics of a Wurster bed, a fluidized bed used in the pharmaceutical industry for the coating of small particles or pellets, is investigated numerically and experimentally. The main objective of the thesis is to obtain greater knowledge of the flow properties in the Wurster bed. READ MORE
