  1. 11. Bending the Curve – the Role and Interplay of Municipal Energy Planning and Municipal Spatial Planning for Climate Change Mitigation in Sweden

    Author : Vincent Wretling; Berit Balfors; Ulrika Gunnarsson-Östling; Christina Hörnberg; Catalina Turcu; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; local energy and climate planning; municipal comprehensive planning; wind power planning; climate policy integration; Strategic Environmental Assessment; institutional capacity building; Land and Water Resources Engineering; Mark- och vattenteknik;

    Abstract : The global climate is changing rapidly, which pronounces the need for imminently bending the curve of greenhouse gases emissions. The local authorities have been recognised as key actors in this decarbonisation, due to their wide-ranging responsibilities, including different mandates for local planning. READ MORE

  2. 12. Decision support for the implementation of low-carbon measures in the building sector

    Author : Nicolas Francart; Tove Malmqvist; Paula Femenias; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; building; sustainability; environmental performance assessment; life cycle assessment; decision making; byggnad; hållbarhet; miljöprestandabedömning; livscykelanalys; beslutsstöd; Strategier för hållbar utveckling; Strategies for sustainable development;

    Abstract : The building sector is responsible for about a fifth to a third of global greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. Therefore, a successful mitigation of GHG emissions over the entire life cycle of buildings is particularly important to achieve climate targets such as the Paris Agreement. READ MORE

  3. 13. Bacterioplankton population dynamics in a changing ocean

    Author : Markus V. Lindh; Jarone Pinhassi; Pierre Galand; Linnéuniversitetet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; marine microbiology; ecology; bacterioplankton; community composition; diversity; seasonality; biogeography; bimodal; metapopulation; community functioning; climate change; environmental disturbance;

    Abstract : Bacterioplankton is characterized by high diversity, short generation times and rapid turnover. Despite their small size, these numerous microorganisms are a fundamental piece of aquatic ecosystems by channeling carbon to higher trophic levels through dissolved organic matter utilization. 4. 14. Studies of Volcanic Influence on Aerosols, Clouds and Climate

    Author : Johan Friberg; Ergonomi och aerosolteknologi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; lowermost stratosphere; volcanic aerosol; upper troposphere; sulfurous aerosol; carbonaceous aerosol; ion beam analysis; volcanism; indirect effect; radiative forcing; direct effect; Stratosphere; Fysicumarkivet A:2016:Friberg;

    Abstract : This thesis focuses on the influence of volcanism on the compositions of the aerosols in the upper troposphere (UT) and lowermost stratosphere (LMS), and their direct and indirect impact on climate. Aerosol data were obtained by aircraft-borne sampling, using the CARIBIC (Civil Aircraft for the Regular Investigation of the Atmosphere Based on an Instrument Container) platform, and laboratory-based ion beam analysis of aerosol samples at the Lund Ion Beam Analysis Facility (LIBAF). 5. 15. Adding Fuel to the Fire : North-South dynamics in the geographies of transport energy: the case of EU biofuels

    Author : David Harnesk; LUCSUS; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; energy geography; geopolitics; territorialisation; climate change mitigation; transport; biofuels; agrofuels; European Union EU ; certification; sustainability criteria; sustainability science; energi; geografi; geopolitik; territorialisering; klimatomställning; transport; biodrivmedel; biobränsle; Europeiska Unionen; certifiering; hållbarhetskriterier; hållbarhetsvetenskap;

    Abstract : Since the 2000s, the European Union (EU) has promoted biofuels for transport to achieve climate change mitigation, and rural development in the global South. In contrast, critiques have argued that biofuel promotion impedes more meaningful mitigation while also resulting in dispossession of land and loss of labour opportunities in the global South.
