  1. 11. Osteoarthritis. Epidemiologic and genetic aspects

    Author : Jonas Franklin; Lund Ortopedi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; body mass index; knee; hip; epidemiology; Osteoarthritis; occupation; hip fracture; inheritance; natural history;

    Abstract : The purpose of this study was to (I) assess the association between body mass index (BMI) and total hip replacement (THR) and total knee replacement (TKR) due to osteoarthritis (OA), (II) assess the association between the mechanical load of work and THR and TKR due to OA, (III) evaluate the natural history of radiographic hip OA with regards to THR and hip fracture, (IV) to determine the prevalence of radiographic OA in patients with hip fracture, and (V) to examine and compare the inheritance patterns of THR for OA and hip fracture. OA was previously regarded as a consequence of the wear and tear the joint is subjected to during one’s lifetime. READ MORE

  2. 12. Knee joint kinematics, fixation and function related to joint area design in total knee arthroplasty

    Author : Johan Uvehammer; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Total knee arthroplasty; polyethylene insert; kinematics; migration; clinical outcome; inducible displacement of the tibial component; radiostereometry.;

    Abstract : The aim was to study the influence of different designs of the joint area on tibial component fixation, kinematics and clinical outcome after a cemented total knee arthroplasty (TKA). The HSS score and a special questionnaire were used at the clinical examination. READ MORE

  3. 13. Empowering knowledge and Quality of Recovery after hip or knee replacement

    Author : Åsa Johansson Stark; Margareta Bachrach-Lindström; Sanna Salanterä; Helvi Kyngäs; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Abstract : BackgroundArthroplasty is commonly used for an increasing population of patients with osteoarthritis, and the recovery process starts directly after surgery. Today’s shorter hospital stay may be a challenge for the patients and their spouses. READ MORE

  4. 14. The Entheses of the Medial Meniscns and Ligaments of the Knee Joint : Descriptive and Experimental Studies

    Author : Jizong Gao; Michael Benjamin; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : knee joint; meniscus; ligaments; insertion; enthesis; quantitative morphology; fibrocartilage; cement line; collagens; proteoglycans; nerve fibres; tensile strength; failure mode; transection; refixation; repair; healing; osteoarthrosis; histology; immunohistochemistry; biomechanics; rabbit model; MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : Meniscal injuries are common in sports. Surgical removal of the meniscus to relieve symptoms is associated with a high risk for late knee joint osteoarthrosis and pain. Meniscal repair or replacement has therefore been advocated. READ MORE

  5. 15. Maturation-dependent normal and injury-induced changes in rabbit knee articular cartilage

    Author : Xiaochun Wei; Leif Ryd; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : rabbit; development; maturation; knee joint; articular cartilage; osteochondral defect; cartilage repair; joint fluid; subchondral bone volume fraction; proteoglycan fragment; transforming growth factor-ß; biomechanics; indentation; histology; hlstomorphometry; MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : Cartilage injuries are common in sports, and may on the long term develop to osteoarthritis. Prosthetic joint replacement is not satisfactory for young active individuals with extended cartilage injuries in large weight-bearing joints. In these cases, a treatment is needed which reestablishes normal joint surfaces by biologic means. READ MORE
