    Keywords : Medicine; Wegener´s granulomatosis; incidence; time-trends; ANCA; familial aggregation; cancer risks; bladder cancer; cyclophosphamide; Medicin;

    Abstract : Wegener´s granulomatosis (WG) is an unusual, serious, systemic vasculitis with specific clinical findings. The studies in this thesis aim at broadening our understanding of the aetiology and outcome of WG.Patients with WG were identified in the In-patient Register 1975-2001. READ MORE

  3. 3. Molecular mechanisms underlying the activation of ALC1 nucleosome remodeling

    Author : Luka Bacic; Sebastian Deindl; Stefan D. Knight; Lari Lehtiö; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; ALC1; CHD1L; nucleosome; ADP-ribosylation; chromatin; remodeling; PARP1; HPF1; DNA damage; Biology with specialization in Structural Biology; Biologi med inriktning mot strukturbiologi; Biology with specialization in Structural Biology; Biologi med inriktning mot strukturbiologi; Biology with specialization in Structural Biology; Biologi med inriktning mot strukturbiologi;

    Abstract : Packaging DNA into chromatin represses essential DNA-based processes, such as transcription, DNA replication, and repair. To change the accessibility of DNA, cells have evolved a set of enzymes referred to as chromatin remodelers that act on the basic repeat unit of chromatin,  the nucleosome. READ MORE

  4. 4. Of spiders, bugs, and men : Structural and functional studies of proteins involved in assembly

    Author : Wangshu Jiang; Stefan D Knight; Steve J. Matthews; Uppsala universitet; []

    Abstract : Protein assembly enables complex machineries while being economical with genetic information. However, protein assembly also constitutes a potential threat to the host, and needs to be carefully regulated.Sulfate is a common source of sulfur for cysteine synthesis in bacteria. READ MORE

  5. 5. Feasibility Analysis of Biogas Based Polygeneration for Rural Development in Bangladesh

    Author : MD. Ershad Ullah Khan; Andrew Martin; Josiah Knight; KTH; []

    Abstract : Around three-quarters of Bangladeshis (total population 164 million) live in rural areas: only 25% of these households have access to grid electricity with non-reliable supply despite the country’s successful rural electrification program, kerosene is the predominant source for lighting, and woody biomass is virtually the only option available for cooking. Aside from this energy service challenges the rural population also struggles with unsafe drinking water in terms of widespread arsenic contamination of well water. READ MORE
