  1. 11. On the Impact of Piston Motion and In-Cylinder Charge Composition on Energy Release, Auto Ignition and Emission Formation in Premixed Charge Internal Combustion Engines

    Author : Ola Stenlåås; Förbränningsmotorer; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; bränslen; sprängämnen; Carbochemistry; petrochemistry; fuels and explosives technology; Petrokemi; Internal Combustion Engine; Emission; SI; Spark Ignition; HCCI; Homogeneous Charge Compression Ignition; zone model; Chemical Kinetic; Engine simulation; Reformed Methanol; Hydrogen; Knock; Auto Ignition; NO; Piston Motion; Nitric Oxide; Premixed Charge;

    Abstract : The results presented in this thesis can be divided into four areas of investigation: Investigation of the effect of new volume-crank angle relations on engine emissions, power and efficiency; investigation of nitrogen oxides effect on auto ignition and knock in SI engines; investigation of premixed SI and HCCI engine operation with the alternative fuels hydrogen and reformed methanol gas (RMG); software development of a detailed chemical kinetics zonal engine model. Model development of the in-house two-zone chemical kinetic code focused on expansion of the Jacobian matrix to allow simulations of variable in-cylinder charge. READ MORE

  2. 12. Design of Transition-Metal Nitride Thin Films for Thermoelectrics

    Author : Sit Kerdsongpanya; Per Eklund; Björn Alling; Gunilla Wingqvist; Lars Hultman; Daniel Gall; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Thermoelectric devices are one of the promising energy harvesting technologies, because of their ability to convert heat (temperature gradient) to electricity by the Seebeck effect. Furthermore, thermoelectric devices can be used for cooling or heating by the inverse effect (Peltier effect). READ MORE

  3. 13. Surface Studies of Model Systems relevant for Pd and Ag Catalysts

    Author : Natalia Martin; Synkrotronljusfysik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; High Pressure X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy; X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy; alumina; Ag; NiAl; Pd; catalysis; model system; Surface X-ray Diffraction; Low Energy Electron Diffraction; Scanning Tunneling Microscopy; Fysicumarkivet A:2014:Martin;

    Abstract : This PhD thesis reports on investigations of the atomic scale structure of model catalysts relevant for the catalytic oxidation of CO and methane over Pd, and NOx reduction over silver-alumina, important reactions in automotive catalysts. By using complementary experimental techniques such as X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy, High Pressure X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy, Surface X-ray Diffraction, Low Energy Electron Diffraction, Infrared Spectroscopy, and Scanning Tunneling Microscopy, combined with theoretical calculations, the work presented in this thesis aims at an atomistic characterization of the active sites for silver-alumina and Pd model catalysts which may help to the design of new and improved catalysts. 4. 14. In situ structural studies and gas phase visualization of model catalysts at work

    Author : Sara Blomberg; Synkrotronljusfysik; []
    Keywords : CO-oxidation; model catalysts; AP-XPS; PLIF; Pd; Rh; PdAg; Fysicumarkivet A:2017:Blomberg;

    Abstract : This thesis reports on in situ structural studies relevant to a catalytic surface during CO oxidation. The materials that have been studied are palladium, rhodium and an alloy of palladium and silver, with applications in emission cleaning by catalytic converters in vehicles. READ MORE

  5. 15. Carbon monoxide and nitric oxide as antimicrobial agents : focus on ESBL-producing uropathogenic E.coli

    Author : Charlotte Sahlberg Bang; Katarina Persson; Bo Söderquist; Annelie Brauner; Örebro universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; biofilm; carbon monoxide; CORM-2; DETA NO; extendedspectrum beta-lactamases; nitric oxide; urinary tract infection; uropathogenic Escherichia coli; Biomedicin; Biomedicine;

    Abstract : Urinary tract infections (UTI) are common in humans and most often caused by uropathogenic Escherichia coli (E. coli). Extended-spectrum beta-lactamase (ESBL)-producing E. coli are increasing worldwide and they are frequently multidrug-resistant with limited treatment options. READ MORE
