  1. 21. The accessibility and chemical activity of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons in soil

    Author : Fredrik Reichenberg; Centrum för analys och syntes; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Analytisk kemi; Analytical chemistry; Remediation; Bioavailability; Soil and sediment pollution; Environmental chemistry; Miljökemi;

    Abstract : This thesis proposes the use of two concepts: accessibility and chemical activity. Accessibility describes the mass quantity of PAHs that is or can become available within a given time span and under given conditions. READ MORE

  2. 22. The occurrence of disinfection by-products in four Swedish drinking waterworks

    Author : Muhammad Jamshaid Ashiq; David Bastviken; Henrik Kylin; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY;

    Abstract : Disinfection by-products (DBPs) are unwanted, potentially toxic compounds formed when drinking water is disinfected with chemical disinfectants such as chlorine or chloramine. The levels of DBPs produced depends on parameters, such as levels of natural organic matter (NOM) and the nature and concentration of chemical disinfectant used. READ MORE

  3. 23. The Interaction between Triblock Copolymers and Surfactants in Dilute Aqueous Solution

    Author : Jörgen Jansson; Fysikalisk kemi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Polymer technology; biopolymers; Polymerteknik; Physical chemistry; Fysikalisk kemi; Calorimetry; SAXS; DLS; SLS; Light scattering; Structure; Complex; Block copolymer-surfactant interaction; Block copolymer vesicles; Self-assembly; Triblock copolymers; NMR;

    Abstract : The solution properties of dilute aqueous solutions of poly(ethylene oxide)-poly(propylene oxide)-poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO-PPO-PEO) triblock copolymers and their interaction with surfactants have been investigated using static and dynamic light scattering, combined with small angle X-ray scattering, calorimetry and nuclear magnetic resonance techniques. In aqueous solution, the triblock copolymers P123 and F127 (EO20PO68EO20 and EO97PO68EO97, respectively) form micelles with a PPO core and a PEO corona. READ MORE

  4. 24. Determining the quality of natural gas and biomethane : Development of a correlative method and instrument prototype for measuring gas quality

    Author : Taras Koturbash; Vladimir G. Kutcherov; Andrew R. Martin; Khaled Loubar; KTH; []
    Keywords : Natural gas; biomethane; calorific value; Wobbe Index; ultrasonic measurement; sound attenuation; Energy Technology; Energiteknik;

    Abstract : The composition of natural gas highly depends on its origin: natural gas from various deposits, substitute natural gas that can be produced from fossil fuels or renewable sources. The intermixing of gases from various supply sources during pipeline transportation also leads to more complicated and unpredictable gas composition variations at the consumption site. READ MORE

  5. 25. Hydrogeochemistry of arsenic, fluoride, and other trace elements in groundwater in northern Tanzania : Occurrence, distribution, and impacts on drinking water quality

    Author : Fanuel Josephat Ligate; Prosun Bhattacharya; Felix W Mtalo; Jyoti Prakash Maity; Joyanto Routh; KTH; []
    Keywords : Arsenic; Fluoride; Groundwater; Lake Victoria basin; Risk assessment; Sanya alluvial plain; Tanzania.; Aseniki; Bonde la Ziwa Victoria; Floridi; Maji yaliyopo ardhini; Tanzania; Tathmini ya hatari; Uwanda wa Aluvia ya Sanya.; Arsenik; Fluorid; Grundvatten; Viktoriasjön; Riskbedömning; Sanya alluvial slätt; Tanzania.; Mark- och vattenteknik; Land and Water Resources Engineering;

    Abstract : The occurrence of arsenic (As), fluoride (F-), and other trace elements (TEs) with potential toxicity in groundwater is a global environmental concern. According to the National water resource mapping database, about 76 % of the drinking water supply in Tanzania is abstracted from groundwater sources. READ MORE
