  1. 1. Multi-Disciplinary Conceptual Design of Future Jet Engine Systems

    Author : Konstantinos G. Kyprianidis; Stephen O. T. Ogaji; Riti Singh; Herbert Saravanmuttoo; UK Cranfield University; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Gas Turbine; Intercooled; Recuperated; Turbofan; Future; Simulation; Performance; Aircraft; Emissions; Multi-disciplinary; Jet Engine; Energy- and Environmental Engineering; energi- och miljöteknik;

    Abstract : This thesis describes various aspects of the development of a multi-disciplinary aero engine conceptual design tool, TERA2020 (Techno-economic, Environmental and Risk Assessment for 2020), based on an explicit algorithm that considers: engine performance, engine aerodynamic and mechanical design, aircraft design and performance, emissions prediction and environmental impact, engine and airframe noise, and production, maintenance and direct operating costs.As part of this research effort, a newly-derived semi-empirical NOx correlation for modern rich-burn single-annular combustors is proposed. 2. 2. Preliminary Design Investigations for the Selection of Optimum Reaction Degree for 1st Stage of a High Pressure Gas Turbine

    Author : Hina Noor; Torsten Fransson; Konstantinos G. Kyprianidis; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; 1D design; aerodynamic design parameters; flow kinematic; thermodynamics; rotor inlet temperature; cooled turbine; reaction degree; flow coefficient; stage loading;

    Abstract : One-dimensional (1D) turbine design calculation phase requires a handful of input data and choice of design parameters to provide the blade flow path geometry along with the flow kinematics and thermodynamics properties at the blade mid-span. The choice of important aerodynamics design parameters namely reaction degree, nozzle guide vane NGV exit flow angle or flow coefficient and stage loading defines the mid-span flow velocity triangles. 3. 3. Solar receiver development for gas-turbine based solar dish systems

    Author : Lukas Aichmayer; Björn Laumert; Konstantinos Kyprianidis; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Concentrating solar power; volumetric solar receiver; development; experimental evaluation; validation; Koncentrerad solkraft; volumetrisk solmottagare; utveckling; experimentell utvärdering; validering; Energy Technology; Energiteknik;

    Abstract : Small-scale concentrating solar power plants such as micro gas-turbine based solar dish systems have the potential to harness solar energy in an effective way and supply electricity to customers in remote areas. In such systems, the solar receiver transfers the power of concentrated solar radiation to the working fluid of the power conversion cycle. READ MORE

  4. 4. Modelling Towards Control of Dynamic Systems : Applications on RDF Fired CFB Performance and DHN Distribution

    Author : Nathan Zimmerman; Konstantinos Kyprianidis; Carl-Fredrik Lindberg; Erik Dahlquist; Natasa Nord; Mälardalens universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Heat and Power; Circulating Fluidized Bed Boiler; District Heating; Model Predictive Control; Feed-Forward; CHP; Energy- and Environmental Engineering; energi- och miljöteknik;

    Abstract : The combination of global warming along with increasing energy demand necessitates the importance of improving processes pertaining to the production and consumption of energy in combined heat and power plants. This thesis brings to light transient factors currently burdening process performance for circulating fluidized bed boilers (CFBs) combusting refuse derived fuels (RDFs) and district heating networks (DHN). 5. 5. Numerical Modelling of Subcooled Nucleate Boiling for Thermal Management Solutions Using OpenFOAM

    Author : Achref Rabhi; Rebei Bel Fdhila; Konstantinos Kyprianidis; Ioanna Aslanidou; Christophe Duwig; Mälardalens universitet; []
    Keywords : Computational Fluid Dynamics; Boiling Flows; Two-phase cooling; Energy- and Environmental Engineering; energi- och miljöteknik;

    Abstract : Two-phase cooling solutions employing subcooled nucleate boiling flows e.g. thermosyphons, have gained a special interest during the last few decades. This interest stems from their enhanced ability to remove extremely high heat fluxes, while keeping a uniform surface temperature. READ MORE
