  1. 21. Towards a pure kraft lignin

    Author : Rufus Ziesig; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; LignoBoost; black liquor; lignin; impurities; purification; carbohydrate; inorganics; precipitation;

    Abstract : The most widely used production method for paper pulp in the world is kraft pulping. In chemical pulping the polymer, lignin, which binds the wood fibres together, is partly depolymerized. This allows the wood fibres to be separated from each other. READ MORE

  2. 22. Modifying kraft pulping to produce a softwood pulp requiring less energy in tissue paper production

    Author : Hafizur Rahman; Per Engstrand; Mikael E. Lindström; Louise Logenius; Peter Sandström; Ulf Germgård; Mittuniversitetet; []
    Keywords : Modifying kraft pulp; tissue dewatering; polysulfide; sodium borohydride; tensile index; hemicellulose;

    Abstract : Modification of softwood kraft pulp by the addition of either polysulfide (PS) or sodium borohydride (NaBH4) has been shown to increase the pulp yield due to a higher retention of glucomannan.  The pulps with higher yield gave a paper with higher tensile index than reference pulp, especially at lower degrees of refining. 3. 23. Mass Transport in Wood Disintegration: Implications for the Pulp and Paper Industry

    Author : Roujin Ghaffari; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; mass transport; specific ion effects; impregnation; Kraft pulping; ionoSolv; ionic liquids; delignification;

    Abstract : Efficient delignification and fractionation processes are essential in the pulp and paper industry. Mass transport events in wood fractionation are of great importance, specifically in two main stages, namely, the mass transport of chemicals into wood and the mass transport of degraded lignin molecules out of cellulose confinements.
