  1. 1. Multiphysical analysis methods to predict the ageing and durability of concrete

    Author : Tobias Gasch; Anders Ansell; Richard Malm; Erik Nordström; Max Hendriks; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Ageing; Cracking; Creep; Concrete; Durability; Finite Element Method; Multiphysics; Shrinkage; Beständighet; Betong; Finita elementmetoden; Krypning; Krympning; Multifysik; Sprickbildning; Åldring; Civil and Architectural Engineering; Byggvetenskap;

    Abstract : With the societal demand for sustainability and the increasing age of infrastructure, a crucial task for the civil engineering community is to improve the durability of concrete structures. This thesis aims to contribute to such development through theoretical studies using mathematical modelling and numerical simulations. READ MORE

  2. 2. In-plane tension behaviour of masonry

    Author : Miklos Molnar; Avdelningen för Konstruktionsteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; restrained shrinkage; cracking; movement joints; Building construction; mortar joints; KstrMasonry; masonry; in-plane tension; Byggnadsteknik; murverk; sprickor; krympning; dilatationsfogar;

    Abstract : The main purpose of the present work is to increase knowledge of in-plane tension behav-iour of masonry and develop a model able to describe the impact of parameters influencing cracking caused by restrained shrinkage. In the process the mechanism of load transfer between units and mortar joints is described. READ MORE

  3. 3. Restraint Effects in Concrete Bridges : A Study of Cracking due to Thermal Actions and Shrinkage in Portal Frame Bridges

    Author : Erik Gottsäter; Avdelningen för Konstruktionsteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Tvång; Betong; Uppsprickning; Temperaturlast; Plattrambro; FE-analys; Restraint; Concrete; Cracking; Thermal action; Portal frame bridge; FE-analysis;

    Abstract : Thermal actions and shrinkage cause volume changes in concrete structures. In structures which are restrained from movements, the restraint effects can cause cracking. However, when cracking occurs, the structure can deform to some extent, which reduces the restraint stresses and thus also the crack widths. READ MORE

  4. 4. The mechanisms controlling heat and mass transfer on frying of beefburgers

    Author : Bea Kovácsné Oroszvári; Livsmedelsteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Livsmedelsteknik; Food and drink technology; permeability; porosity; contraction; frying; beefburger; heat and mass transfer;

    Abstract : The aim of the present work was to gain better understanding of the mechanisms controlling heat and mass transfer during thermal processing of beefburgers. The effects of different factors such as the chemical composition and comminution of the meat raw material, the pan temperature and the meat patty diameter on the characteristics of heat and mass transfer were studied.
