  1. 1. Advancing the measurement of sedentary behaviour : classifying posture and physical (in-)activity

    Author : Roman Peter Kuster; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Sedentary behaviour, defined by a sitting body posture with minimal-intensity physical activity, is an emergent public health topic. The time spent sedentary is associated with the incidence of non-communicable chronic diseases such as type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease and significantly shortens life-expectancy in a dose-response relationship. 2. 2. Molecular mechanisms in actinorhizal symbioses

    Author : Tomas Persson; Katharina Pawlowski; Helge Küster; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Plant Physiology; växtfysiologi;

    Abstract : The symbiosis between the nitrogen fixing acinobacterium Frankia and its actinorhizal host plant is very old and their co-evolution has shaped their niche in the environment. Nitrogen is most often the limiting element in soil, and symbiotic plants can, with the help of their micrsymbionts, compete in an efficient way. READ MORE

  4. 4. DISCO - Drivers and Impacts of Coastal Ocean Acidification

    Author : Laurie Charrieau; Kvartärgeologi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Coastal ocean acidification; Foraminifera; Environmental changes; pH; Salinity;

    Abstract : Ocean acidification, mainly attributed to the increasing anthropogenic CO2 in the atmosphere, is characterised by a lowering pH together with a shift in the sea water carbonate chemistry toward lower concentration of carbonate ions. On the coasts, where the environmental variability is high due to natural and human impacts, ocean acidification mainly affects the frequency, magnitude, and duration of lower pH and lower calcium carbonate saturation events. 5. 5. Microbenthos under Pressure : Impacts of human activities on bacteria and meiofauna communities in Baltic soft sediments

    Author : Sven Iburg; Francisco J. A. Nascimento; Owen Wangensteen; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; soft sediments; benthic ecosystems; anthropogenic disturbance; contamination; recreational boating; bottom trawling; meiofauna; bacteria; metabarcoding; Baltic Sea; mjuka sediment; bentiska ekosystem; antropogenisk påverkan; förorening; fritidsbåtar; bottentrålning; meiofauna; bakterier; metabarcoding; Östersjön; marin ekologi; Marine Ecology;

    Abstract : The marine benthic zone is one of the largest habitats on the planet, harbouring a large diversity of life that underpin many important ecological processes. However, these habitats have been under growing stress from human activities, profoundly altering their living communities. READ MORE
