  1. 6. B-physics potential of the ATLAS experiment and performance of the ATLAS Transition Radiation Tracker

    Author : Chafik Driouichi; Teoretisk partikelfysik - Geonomgår omorganisation; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; ATLAS; B-physics; LHC; Bc meson; Elementary particle physics; Transition Radiation Tracker; quantum field theory; Elementarpartikelfysik; kvantfältteori; Fysicumarkivet A:2004:Driouichi;

    Abstract : The ATLAS experiment is one of the four experiments at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), which is supposed to be operational in early 2007. Proton-proton collisions at an unprecedented center-of-mass energy of 14 TeV will probe new frontiers of the universe, hopefully providing a better understanding of the laws governing our universe. 2. 7. The search for a standard model Higgs at the LHC and electron identification using transition radiation in the ATLAS tracker

    Author : Ulrik Egede; Partikel- och kärnfysik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; quantum field theory; Elementary particle physics; tracker; Large Hadron Collider; pion rejection; pattern recognition; Elementarpartikelfysik; kvantfältteori; Fysicumarkivet A:1998:Egede;

    Abstract : The Large Hadron Collider (LHC) will be ready for proton-proton collisions in the year 2005 and the ATLAS detector will be one of the two experiments at the LHC which will explore a new and higher energy range for particle physics. In this thesis, an analysis of the power of the ATLAS detector to detect a Standard Model Higgs boson has been performed. READ MORE

  3. 8. Single-Photon Events in the DELPHI Experiment

    Author : Elisabeth Falk; Partikel- och kärnfysik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; kvantfältteori; Elementarpartikelfysik; quantum field theory; DELPHI; STIC; LEP; single-photon events; PS; off-energy electrons; silicon-strip detector; coherent noise; emittance; Elementary particle physics; fast wire scanner; High energy interactions; cosmic rays; Kosmisk strålning; högenergi; Fysicumarkivet A:1998:Falk Harris;

    Abstract : A series of studies pertaining to the STIC calorimeter at the DELPHI experiment at LEP is presented, and a new generation of fast wire scanners for emittance measurements at PS is described. The STIC studies are centered around a single-photon analysis, in which the reaction e+ e- -> gamma + invisible particles was studied at center-of-mass energies of 161, 172 and 183 GeV. READ MORE

  4. 9. Meson Decay with Isospin Breaking At Two Loops

    Author : Karim Ghorbani; Teoretisk partikelfysik - Geonomgår omorganisation; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; kvantfältteori; Elementarpartikelfysik; quantum field theory; Elementary particle physics; Naturvetenskap; Natural science; hadron physics; standard model; chiral Lagrangian; quantum correction;

    Abstract : In all calculations done in this thesis, the evaluation of higher order quantum corrections has been central. In the first paper included in this thesis we have investigated the effects of finite volume meson propagators for quark-antiquark vacuum expectation value at two-loop level. READ MORE

  5. 10. Azimuthal Correlations in Dijet Events from Deep Inelastic Positron-Proton Scattering at HERA

    Author : Magnus Hansson; Partikel- och kärnfysik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Elementary particle physics; Jets; Azimuthal Correlations; Dijets; Parton Dynamics; Low-x; H1; HERA; quantum field theory; Elementarpartikelfysik; kvantfältteori; Fysicumarkivet A:2007:Hansson;

    Abstract : Correlations in the azimuthal angle between dijets produced in deep inelastic $e^{+}p$ scattering events, collected by the H1 experiment during 1999-2000, have been investigated. Cross sections are presented as a function of the azimuthal separation between the two jets in the hadronic center of mass frame, $Deltaphi^{*}$, in different regions of the photon virtuality $Q^{2}$ and in different regions of the Bjorken scaling variable $x_{Bj}$.
