  1. 1. Production of L-arginine by Escherichia coli : Impact of genetic modifications, carbon and nitrogen sources

    Author : Mireille Ginesy; Ulrika Rova; Michael Sauer; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Biokemisk processteknik; Biochemical Process Engineering;

    Abstract : In the recent years, the demand for environmental friendly produced L-arginine has risen with the increasing number of applications for this amino acid in pharmaceuticals, nutraceuticals, cosmetics, animal feed and fertilizers.Microbial production of L-arginine usually relies on Corynebacterium glutam-icum and Corynebacterium crenatum strains. 2. 2. Production of L-arginine by genetically modified Escherichia coli

    Author : Mireille Ginesy; Björn Alriksson; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Biokemisk processteknik; Biochemical Process Engineering;

    Abstract : In the recent years, the demand for environmental friendly produced L-arginine has risen with the increasing number of applications for this amino acid in pharmaceuticals, nutraceuticals, cosmetics, animal feed and fertilizers. Members of the Corynebacteriaceae family are usually used for microbial L-arginine production. READ MORE

  3. 3. Endothelium-Dependent Vasodilation and Oxidative Stress in Chronic Renal Failure

    Author : Margus Annuk; Ola Samuelson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Medical sciences; endothelium; oxidative stress; chronic renal failure; L-arginine; diclofenac; erythropoietin; MEDICIN OCH VÅRD; MEDICINE; MEDICIN; Internal Medicine; invärtesmedicin;

    Abstract : Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the major cause of death in patients with chronic renal failure (CRF). Endothelial function and oxidative stress (OS) have previously been shown to be important in the pathogenesis of CVD. In this thesis, the endothelium-dependent vasodilatation (EDV) and OS were investigated in the patients with CRF. READ MORE

  4. 4. Aspects of Regulation of GFR and Tubular Function in the Diabetic Kidney : Roles of Adenosine, Nitric Oxide and Oxidative Stress

    Author : Patrik Persson; Fredrik Palm; Peter Hansell; Bengt Rippe; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; diabetes; diabetic nephropathy; glomerular filtration rate; renal blood flow; insulin; renal hemodynamics; micropuncture; oxygen; NADPH-oxidase; apocynin; streptozotocin; l-arginine; CGS21680; rats; mice; Physiology; Fysiologi; Medical Science; Medicinsk vetenskap;

    Abstract : Diabetic nephropathy is the main cause for initiation of renal replacement therapy and early symptoms in patients include increased glomerular filtration rate (GFR), decreased oxygen tension and albuminuria, followed by a progressive decline in GFR and loss of kidney function. Experimental models of diabetes display increased GFR, decreased tissue oxygenation and nitric oxide bioavailability. READ MORE

  5. 5. Lipids and Endothelium-Dependent Vasodilation

    Author : Peter Steer; Lars Lind; Per Tornvall; Uppsala universitet; []

    Abstract : Impaired endothelium-dependent vasodilation (EDV) is associated with atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease as well as several of its risk factors. The aim of the present thesis was to investigate how lipids influence EDV in the vascular bed of the human forearm. READ MORE
