  1. 11. Optical devices and methods for distributed lab-on-a-chip analyses

    Author : Pakorn Preechaburana; Daniel Filippini; Ingemar Lundström; Readislav Potyrailo; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Lab-on-a-chip (LOC) technologies entail the miniaturization of analytical systems, and the reduction of required sample and reagent volumes. LOC devices offer compact alternatives to classical instrumentation while delivering comparable performance and disposable formats. READ MORE

  2. 12. On acoustic particle and cell manipulation in microfluidic systems

    Author : Filip Petersson; Avdelningen för Biomedicinsk teknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Medicin människa och djur ; Natural science; Naturvetenskap; Technological sciences; Teknik; acoustic particle manipulation standing wave; acoustic radiation force; laminar flow; Medicine human and vertebrates ; microparticles; ultrasound; lab-on-a-chip; µ-TAS; separation; cells; microfabrication; microtechnology; microfluidics;

    Abstract : The combination of laminar flows in microfabricated channels and acoustic forces induced in ultrasonic standing wave fields offers new possibilities for advanced particle and cell manipulation in lab-on-a-chip applications as well as in relatively high throughput applications. Acoustic particle manipulation systems can be used e.g. READ MORE

  3. 13. On microchannel acoustophoresis - Experimental considerations and life science applications

    Author : Per Augustsson; Avdelningen för Biomedicinsk teknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; microtechnology; microfluidics; lab on a chip; separation; acoustophoresis; ultrasound; acoustic resonance; acoustic radiation force; phage display; circulating tumour cells; acoustofluidics;

    Abstract : This thesis presents experimental studies of microchannel acoustophoresis, a technique for manipulation of microscopic objects in suspension by means of acoustic radiation forces induced by ultrasonic standing wave fields. By arranging an acoustic resonance across the width of a microchannel, the path of individual cells or microparticles can be deflected orthogonally to the fluid flow. READ MORE

  4. 14. Novel Microfluidic Devices Based on a Thermally Responsive PDMS Composite

    Author : Björn Samel; Göran Stemme; Jörg Kutter; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; MEMS; microsystem technology; micro total analysis system; lab-on-a-chip; microfluidics; composite actuator; expandable microspheres; PDMS; poly dimethylsiloxane; disposable; wafer bonding; adhesive bonding; PDMS bonding; adhesive PDMS bonding; selective PDMS bonding; microcontact printing; Electrical engineering; Elektroteknik;

    Abstract : The field of micro total analysis systems (μTAS) aims at developments toward miniaturized and fully integrated lab-on-a-chip systems for applications, such as drug screening, drug delivery, cellular assays, protein analysis, genomic analysis and handheld point-of-care diagnostics. Such systems offer to dramatically reduce liquid sample and reagent quantities, increase sensitivity as well as speed of analysis and facilitate portable systems via the integration of components such as pumps, valves, mixers, separation units, reactors and detectors. Abstract : This thesis presents studies of molecular motors in interaction with nm-scale structures, as well as the development of a set of tools that can be used for the construction of custom-designed nano-transportation systems. In our studies, we have used the latest nanoscale technology and combined this with advanced results from chemistry and biomedical sciences. READ MORE
