  1. 1. Laccases from New Fungal Sources and Some Promising Applications

    Author : Laura Mendoza; Bioteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Fungi; ligninases; modification of primary alcohols; modification of lignin; laccase applications; dye decolorization;

    Abstract : Fungi are a group of organisms with the ability to produce different types of enzymes in order to get access to nutrients. Among the enzymes, oxidoreductases have the ability to degrade lignocellulosic material via an oxidative mechanism, facilitating the uptake of cellulosic material, which will be metabolized using other enzymes to provide the required nutrients to the fungi. 2. 2. Spectroelectrochemistry of Redox Enzymes

    Author : Andreas Christenson; Centrum för analys och syntes; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Elektrokemi; Electrochemistry; complex II; bilirubin oxidase; laccase; enzyme mechanism; redox potential; electron transfer; spectroelectrochemistry; redox enzymes; Spectroelectrochemical cell;

    Abstract : A low volume and long optical path spectroelectrochemical cell was constructed and tested in a number of applications such as detection of direct electron transfer (DET) between redox enzymes and gold electrodes, determination of the formal potentials of redox centres in proteins and enzymes, as well as mechanistic studies of heterogeneous and intermolecular electron transfer of copper oxidases and succinate:quinine oxidoreductase (Complex II). The existence of DET between enzymes and electrodes was demonstrated for theophylline oxidase, cytochrome P450 cam, laccase, bilirubin oxidase, sulphite oxidase and Complex II. READ MORE

  3. 3. Laccase from a Litter Degrading Fungus: Evaluation for Environmental Applications and Modification of Lignin to a Bioadhesive

    Author : Victor Ibrahim; Bioteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY;

    Abstract : Laccase, the phenol oxidizing enzyme, was first described towards the end of the 19th century from the wound sap of the lacquer tree Rhus vernicifera. The enzyme has the widest distribution in nature among the multicopper oxidases. It catalyzes single electron transfer oxidation in the presence of molecular oxygen producing water as by-product. 4. 4. Laccases and Oxalate-Degrading Enzymes Heterologous Expression and Novel Applications in Lignocellulose Processing

    Author : Pierre Cassland; Teknisk mikrobiologi; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; virology; mycology; Mikrobiologi; virologi; mykologi; bacteriology; Microbiology; Lignocellulose Processing; Heterologous expression; Laccases; Oxalate-Degrading Enzymes; bakteriologi;

    Abstract : Lignocellulose constitutes a vast renewable resource for the production of, for example, paper and bioethanol. The potential of using laccase and oxalate-degrading enzymes in novel applications for the processing of lignocellulose was investigated in this work. READ MORE

  5. 5. Physical, Chemical and Biochemical Modifications of Industrial Softwood Kraft Lignin for Different Applications

    Author : Miao Wang; Jiebing Li; Mikael Lindström; Elisabeth Sjöholm; Gunnar Westman; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Kemi; Chemistry;

    Abstract : Various technical lignins, e.g. industrial Softwood Kraft lignin (SKL), are now largely available while they are generally underutilized due to their heterogeneous and complicated structures and/or the poor properties. READ MORE
