  1. 1. Extended-Spectrum ß-Lactamase-Producing Enterobacteriaceae Antibiotic consumption, Detection and Resistance Epidemiology

    University dissertation from Linköping : Linköping University Electronic Press

    Author : Åse Östholm Balkhed; Linköpings universitet.; Linköpings universitet.; Östergötlands Läns Landsting.; [2014]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Extended-Spectrum ß-Lactamase-Producing Enterobacteriaceae; Antibiotic consumption; Detection Methods; Multiplex PCR; Resistance Epidemiology; Multi-resistance; E. coli; ESBL; fecal carriage; faecal carriage; travel;

    Abstract : ESBL-producing Enterobacteriaceae are emerging worldwide and they are frequently multi-drug resistant, thus limiting treatment options for infections caused by these pathogens.The overall aim of the thesis was to investigate ESBL-producing Enterobacteriaceae in a Swedish county. 2. 2. Extended-spectrum beta-lactamase producing Enterobacteriaceae aspects on detection, epidemiology and multi-drug resistance

    University dissertation from Linköping : Linköping University Electronic Press

    Author : Maria Tärnberg; Linköpings universitet.; Linköpings universitet.; [2012]

    Abstract : Beta-lactam antibiotics are the largest and most commonly used group of antimicrobial agents in Sweden as well as world-wide. They show very good tolerability and many of the drugs can be administrated orally. READ MORE

  3. 3. Beta-Lactamase in Haemophilus ducreyi: Purification, Characterization, and Mutagenesis

    University dissertation from Pure and Applied Biochemistry, Lund University

    Author : Ratana Lawung; [2001]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biokemi; Metabolism; Biochemistry; enzyme calorimeter; site-directed mutagenesis; ampicillin resistance plasmid; Haemophilus ducreyi; TEM-1 b-lactamase; metabolism; Proteins; enzymology; Proteiner; enzymologi; Microbiology; bacteriology; virology; mycology; Mikrobiologi; bakteriologi; virologi; mykologi;

    Abstract : Chancroid caused by Haemophilus ducreyi, has been described as a significantly predisposing factor of HIV heterosexual transmission in an endemic region of both diseases. Antibiotic resistances are extensively found in H. ducreyi and many of the resistances are due to the presence of resistance plasmids. READ MORE

  4. 4. Chromosomal β-lactamases in enterobacteria and in vivo evolution of β-lactam resistance

    University dissertation from Umeå : Umeå universitet

    Author : Sven Bergström; Umeå universitet.; [1983]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Gram negative bacteria; ß-lactamase genes; divergence of neighbouring cperons; ß-lactamase hyperproduction; evolution of control sequences;

    Abstract : The ß-lactam antibiotics are the most important antibacterial agents in the treatment of infectious diseases. A severe problem in ß-lactam therapy is the emergence of ß-lactam resistant bacteria. Clinical ß-lactam resistance is most often due to the production of ß-lactamases. ß-lactamase genes reside either on plasmids or on the chromosome. READ MORE

  5. 5. Extended-Spectrum Beta-Lactamase-Producing Enterobacteriaceae: Epidemiology, Risk Factors, and Duration of Carriage

    University dissertation from Department of Clinical Sciences, Lund University

    Author : Johan Tham; [2012]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Extended-spectrum beta-lactamase; ESBL; risk factors; resistant bacteria; E. coli; Enterobacteriaceae; antibiotics; food;

    Abstract : In human medicine, the most important family of bacteria is Enterobacteriaceae, which includes genera and species that cause well-defined diseases and also nosocomial infections. These bacteria can give rise to numerous infections such as septicaemia and urinary tract infections. READ MORE
