  1. 1. Cellular mechanisms of interaction between uropathogenic Escherichia coli and renal epithelial cells

    Author : Åsa Laestadius; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Urinary tract infections will often, particularly in children, lead to renal scar formation or hypoplastic small kidneys post-infectiously. The most common causative agent is uropathogenic Escherichia coli (E. coli). READ MORE

  2. 2. Foundation of Density Functionals in the Presence of Magnetic Field

    Author : Andre Laestadius; Michael Benedicks; Trygve Helgaker; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Current density functional theory; Hohenberg-Kohn theorems; paramagnetic current density functionals; Kohn-Sham theory; Levy-Lieb functional; variational principle; N-representable; degeneracy; Mathematics; Matematik;

    Abstract : This thesis contains four articles related to mathematical aspects of Density Functional Theory.In Paper A, the theoretical justification of density methods formulated with current densities is addressed. It is shown that the set of ground-states is determined by the ensemble-representable particle and paramagnetic current density. READ MORE

  3. 3. Towards a sustainable automotive industry : experiences from the development of emission control systems

    Author : David Bauner; Staffan Laestadius; Lee Schipper; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; evolutionary economics; environmental innovation; trajectories; co-evolution; Industrial engineering and economy; Industriell teknik och ekonomi;

    Abstract : From the mid-1970s and on, the contribution to air pollution of carbon monoxide, hydrocarbons and nitrogen oxides from gasoline passenger cars in the developed world has been reduced through co-evolution of regulation and commercial introduction of catalytic emission control technology, now part of hundreds of millions of cars, trucks and buses worldwide. This dissertation is a disaggregated study of the global introduction of catalytic emission control technology as a measure to reduce local air pollution. READ MORE

    Abstract : Estonia is the only country in the world, which is totally dependent on oil shale in its energy system. Although this fossil fuel exists in enormous quantities around the world, it has so far not been utilized on a larger scale. The reasons for this have been both economic and, in recent times, ecological. READ MORE
