1. Response of Bolivian Altiplano Lakes to Seasonal and Annual Climate Variations
Abstract : The Bolivian Altiplano is situated between two mountain ranges, the western and eastern central Andes in South America. It has two major lakes, Lake Titicaca to the north, and Lake Poopó to the south, which both are important for the nature as well as for the living conditions on the Altiplano. The two lakes are the remnants of large paleolakes. READ MORE

2. Recombination frequencies in hybrid females of inbred lines of Drosophila melanogaster
Abstract : The intention of the present study was to examine the effect of the maternal genome and cytoplasm, of the attachment of extra heterochromatin of the transposing of heterochromatic regions into euchromatic parts and of temperature shocks during various stages of the development on recombination in Drosophila metanogaster. The access to marker genes along the X-chromosome induced in the inbred line made it possible to examine this array of different conditions in females with an isogenic background. READ MORE

3. Stabilization of fine-grained soils in cold environment and exposed to seasonal frost : By-products as hydraulic binders
Abstract : This doctoral thesis deals with the stabilization of fine-grained soils using by-product originated hydraulic binders. The use of fine-grained soils as subsoil for infrastructure projects is often limited because of the risk for instability. READ MORE

4. Significance and Diversity of Lake Bacteriophages
Abstract : Viruses has a relatively recently been discovered in high abundances in aquatic systems. Their possible importance has therefore been largely overlooked. READ MORE

5. Plankton communities in a changing world - responses to temperature, brownification and lake restoration
Abstract : The effects of increasing temperatures, in light of climate change, have been a well-studied topic during the past decades. However, aquatic ecosystems are also faced with additional challenges such as increasing water colour, known as “brownification”. READ MORE
