  1. 1. Response of Bolivian Altiplano Lakes to Seasonal and Annual Climate Variations

    University dissertation from Water Resources Engineering, Lund University

    Author : Ramiro Pillco; Lunds universitet.; Lund University.; [2007]
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; ENSO; terminal lake; bathymetry; lake level; water balance; lake routing; paleolakes; climate change; precipitation pattern; intermittent rivers.; Desaguadero River; Lake Titicaca; Lake Poopó;

    Abstract : The Bolivian Altiplano is situated between two mountain ranges, the western and eastern central Andes in South America. It has two major lakes, Lake Titicaca to the north, and Lake Poopó to the south, which both are important for the nature as well as for the living conditions on the Altiplano. The two lakes are the remnants of large paleolakes. READ MORE

  2. 2. C2- and C3-symmetric ligands via ring-opening of aziridines

    University dissertation from Stockholm : Kemi

    Author : Fredrik Lake; KTH.; [2002]
    Keywords : asymmetric catalysis; aziridine; benzaldehyde; diethylzinc; enantionselective; ligand; proazaphosphatrane; ring-opening; sulfonamide; symmetry; titanium; nicronium;

    Abstract : This thesis deals with the design and synthesis of chiralenantiopure nitrogencontaining ligands and the use of theseligands in asymmetric catalysis. A modular synthetic approachto enantiopure nitrogen-containing ligands was developed. Thesynthetic method is based on the ring-opening of activatedchiral aziridines by nitrogen nucleophiles. 4. 4. Multifont recognition System for Ethiopic Script

    University dissertation from Göteborg : Department of Signals and Systems, Chalmers University of Technology

    Author : Yaregal Assabie Lake; Högskolan i Halmstad.; [2006]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Ethiopic character recognition; OCR; Multifont recognition; Amharic; Direction fields; Structural and syntactic pattern recognition; TECHNOLOGY Information technology Image analysis; TEKNIKVETENSKAP Informationsteknik Bildanalys;

    Abstract : In this thesis, we present a general framework for multi-font, multi-size and multi-style Ethiopic character recognition system. We propose structural and syntactic techniques for recognition of Ethiopic characters where the graphically comnplex characters are represented by less complex primitive structures and their spatial interrelationships. 5. 5. Infrared spectroscopy as a tool to reconstruct past lake-ecosystem changes Method development and application in lake-sediment studies

    University dissertation from Umeå : Umeå University

    Author : Carsten Meyer-Jacob; Umeå universitet.; [2015]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy; visible-near infrared spectroscopy; PLS regression; biogenic silica; climate change; carbon cycling; lake-water quality; geochemistry; paleolimnology; Holocene; Lake El’gygytgyn; Torneträsk;

    Abstract : Natural archives such as lake sediments allow us to assess contemporary ecosystem responses to climate and environmental changes in a long-term context beyond the few decades to at most few centuries covered by monitoring or historical data. To achieve a comprehensive view of the changes preserved in sediment records, multi-proxy studies – ideally in high resolution – are necessary. READ MORE
