  1. 1. Polymer effects on microemulsions and lamellar phases

    Author : Håkan Bagger-Jörgensen; Fysikalisk kemi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Poisson-Boltzmann equation; hard sphere; osmometry; small angle scattering; phase behaviour; hydrophobically modified polyelectrolyte; hydrophobically modified polymer; nonionic surfactant; microemulsion; lamellar phase; undulation force; Physical chemistry; Fysikalisk kemi;

    Abstract : The main part of this thesis deals with the effects of adsorbing and non-adsorbing polymers when mixed with microemulsion droplets and bilayers in a lamellar phase. The phase behaviour, microstructure and interactions in a nonionic surfactant/ water/ oil-system, comprising penta ethylene oxide dodecyl ether (C12E5) and decane, was investigated. READ MORE

  2. 2. Equilibrium and Nonequilibrium Properties of Nonionic Surfactant Membranes

    Author : Thao Le; Fysikalisk kemi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; lamellar; multilamellar vesicle; small-angle x-ray scattering SAXS ; small-angle neutron scattering SANS ; static light scattering SLS ; joule heating temperature jump JHTJ ; dynamic light scattering DLS ; Nonionic surfactants; sponge; elastic curvature energy; Physical chemistry; Fysikalisk kemi;

    Abstract : An extensive investigation of the multilamellar vesicles (La*), lamellar (La), and multiply connected sponge (L3) phase formed in surfactant systems is presented in this thesis. These membrane structures were studied using surfactant systems containing poly(oxyethylene) alkyl ethers, n-CnH2n+1(OCH2CH2) mOH, commonly abbreviated as CnEm. READ MORE

  3. 3. Controlling Structure and Water Miscibility of Polyion - Surfactant Ion Complex Salts

    Author : Jens Norrman; Fysikalisk kemi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Physical chemistry; Fysikalisk kemi; phase diagram; cubic Pm3n; hexagonal; lamellar; self diffusion; PFG NMR; SAXS; liquid crystals; polymer; counterion; complex; polyelectrolyte; surfactant;

    Abstract : The interaction between poylions and oppositely charged surfactant ions has been investigated. This has been done by using the pure complex salt (polyion + surfactant ion) as a point of departure. Different parameters of the complex salt have been varied in a systematic way and the effect on structure and water miscibility has been investigated. READ MORE

  4. 4. Dendritic morphology and ultimate tensile strength of pearlitic lamellar graphite iron

    Author : Vasilios Fourlakidis; Attila Diószegi; Carlos A. Silva Ribeiro; Jönköping University; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Lamellar graphite iron; Primary austenite dendrite; Ultimate tensile strength; Microstructure model;

    Abstract : The continued development, of cylinder blocks and cylinder heads for heavy truck engines that are made of lamellar graphite iron (LGI) is focused on achieving high ultimate tensile strength (UTS) whilst conforming to environmental regulations. The purpose of this work is to further improve the tensile strength as well as the predictive engineering tools for optimization of LGI aimed to enhance the efforts for producing lighter and sustainable components without sacrificing performance. 5. 5. Tribological and Mechanical Behaviour of Lamellar and Compacted Graphite Irons in Engine Applications

    Author : Rohollah Ghasemi; Anders Professor; Lennart Assistance professor; Bengt-Göran Rosén; Anders Jarfors; Lennart Elmquist; Jönköping University; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Sliding wear; abrasive wear; graphite lubricating performance; matrix deformation; lamellar graphite iron; high-Si compacted graphite iron;

    Abstract : There has been much discussion about the beneficial uses of lamellar graphite iron in piston rings–cylinder liner systems, where a good combinations of both thermal and tribological properties are essential. The excellent tribological performance of lamellar iron under such sliding conditions is principally associated with lubrication behaviour of the graphite particles which are distributed as lamellas throughout the matrix.
