1. Flow control and reduced-order modelling of transition in shear flows
Abstract : In this thesis direct numerical simulation is used to investigate the possibility to delay the transition from a laminar to a turbulent flow in boundary layer flows. Furthermore, modal analysis techniques are used to identify the coherent structures in wind turbine wake. READ MORE

2. Accurate physical and numerical modeling of complex vortex phenomena over delta wings
Abstract : With this contribution to the AVT-113/VFE-2 task group it was possible to prove the feasibility of high Reynolds number CFD computations to resolve and thus better understand the peculiar dual vortex system encountered on the VFE-2 blunt leading edge delta wing. Initial investigations into this phenomenon seemed to undermine the hypothesis, that the formation of the inner vortex system relies on the laminar state of the boundary layer at separation onset. 3. Receptivity of Boundary-Layer Flows over Flat and Curved Walls
Abstract : Direct numerical simulations of the receptivity and instability of boundary layers on flat and curved surfaces are herein reported. Various flow models are considered with the aim to capture aspects of flows over straight and swept wings such as wall curvature, pressure variations, leading-edge effects, streamline curvature and crossflow. 4. Advances in vortical flow prediction methods for design of delta-winged aircraft
Abstract : This thesis covers the field of vortex-flow dominated external aerodynamics. As part of the contribution to the AVT-113 task group it was possible to prove the feasibility of high Reynolds number CFD computations to resolve and thus better understand the peculiar dual vortex system encountered on the VFE-2 blunt leading edge delta wing at low to moderate incidences. 5. Boundary layers over wing sections
Abstract : The understanding of developing boundary layers over wings is an important topic from the perspective of industrial applications. An increased understanding would be consequential not only for achieving higher fuel efficiency but also in the design of aircraft control strategies. READ MORE
