1. Dynamic Anisotropic and Piezoelectric Plate Equations - A Power Series Approach with Recursion Relations among the Expansion Functions
Abstract : The subject of this thesis is dynamics of plates. Both anisotropic elastic plates, piezoelectric plates, thin piezoelectric layers on elastic plates and elastic laminates are considered. Piezoelectric materials are often used in sensors and actuators and common applications for these are vibration control and ultrasonic transducers. READ MORE

2. Water-based Tape Casting of Ceramics and Fabrication of Ceramic Laminates
Abstract : The objective of the work presented in this dissertation has been twofold: to develop a water-based system for tape casting and to build laminar structures from the tapes. A set of requirements on the binder was specified and latexes were identified as suitable for water-based tape casting, mainly owing to their low viscosity and high polymeric content. READ MORE

3. On the Fracture of Thin Laminates
Abstract : This thesis concerns mechanical and fracture properties of a thin aluminium foil and polymer laminate that is widely used as packaging material. The possibility of controlling the path of the growing crack propagation by adjustment of the adhesion level and the property of the polymer layer is investigated. READ MORE

4. Damage evolution in laminates with manufacturing defects
Abstract : In this thesis, experimental investigations and theoretical studies on the stochastic matrix cracking evolution under static loading in composite laminates with manufacturing defects are presented. The presented work demonstrates a methodology that accounts for the statistically distributed defects in damage mechanics models for the assessment of the integrity of composites and for the structural design of composites. 5. Analysis of transverse composite cross-ply laminates
Abstract : Advanced polymer composites are commonly based on thin prepreg plies stacked at different angles to form a laminate. When the laminate is loaded, intralaminar transverse cracking in off-axis plies is one of the first damage modes. In the presented thesis, cross-ply laminates are used to study the transverse cracking phenomenon. READ MORE
