16. Engineered Wetlands and Reactive Bed Filters for Treatment of Landfill Leachate
Abstract : The main objectives of this study were to investigate (i) anovel wetland treatment technology and (ii) selected bed filtermedia for the removal of contaminants from landfill leachate. Areview of the literature concerning experiences of the use ofconstructed wetlands (CW) for the removal of nitrogen fromlandfill leachate, showed that at least three groups oftreatment systems are in practice: sub-surface flow wetlands, hybrid systems (a combination of vertical and horizontal flowwetlands) and, compact constructed wetland (CCW). 17. Bioindication and bioremediation of landfill emissions
Abstract : This thesis investigates the use of plants, fungi, and microorganisms to assess and treat landfill gas, leachate and contaminated soils. As landfill emissions can occur over extended time periods, it is a practical strategy to develop passive and economical methods for emission control i.e., requiring little human involvement. 18. Methodology for evaluation of hazards from solid waste and landfill-generated leachate
Abstract : Avfall har alltid uppkommit i alla samhällen i alla tider. Det vanligaste sättet att hand om det har varit att samla avfallet i soptippar (deponier) på mark som ansetts obrukbar, t.ex. i sankmarker utanför bebyggelsen. READ MORE

19. Nitrifyers in constructed wetlands treating landfill leachates
Abstract : Landfill leachate is produced many years after a landfill site closes. Hence, treatment by “natural methods”, as e.g. constructed wetlands, with low management requirements is attractive. READ MORE

20. On leachate emissions from municipal solid waste
Abstract : When attention is drawn to the recovery of resources within waste, the amount and types of waste disposed of at landfills change. A waste management system based on separate kerbside collection, sorting, recycling, and pretreatment with material and/or energy recovery produces new residues, which finally end up at landfills.
