  1. 1. Cold-climate landforms on Mars and Earth-analogues in Svalbard

    Author : Andreas Johnsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Mars; Svalbard; Spitsbergen; periglacial; ice; permafrost; Earth-analogues; terrestrial analogues; geomorphology; landforms; solifluction; debris flow; gully; craters; cold-climate;

    Abstract : Periglacial landforms on Earth reflect cold-climate conditions and are intimately related to processes due to the presence of ground ice and perennially frozen ground, permafrost. The overall objective of this thesis is to investigate the potential of Svalbard as an analogue to Mars cold-climate landforms, and explore past and present processes and surface conditions on Mars by inference from morphological counterparts in Svalbard. 2. 2. The role of tectonics, structures and etch processes for the present relief in glaciated Precambrian besement rocks of SW Sweden

    Author : Magnus Johansson; Karlstads universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Landforms; morphotectonics; palaeosurfaces; GIS; digital elevation data; granite; deep weathering; saprolites; etchsurface; basins; structures; glacial reshaping; roche moutonnée; Naturgeografi; Physical Geography;

    Abstract : In high latitudes, landscapes of low relief are known to contain residues of pre-glacial deep weathering, or etching, which testify to limited modification of the pre-glacial relief by the Pleistocene ice sheets. In this thesis landforms in all scales are classified according to their process of formation. READ MORE

  3. 3. Glacial erosion zonation : perspectives on topography, landforms, processes and time

    Author : Anders Clarhäll; Stockholms universitet; []

  4. 4. Sedimentology and Geomorphology of Glacial Landforms in Southern Sweden : Studying the Landscape of a Melting Ice Sheet

    Author : Gustaf Peterson Becher; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Glacial geology; Geomorphology; Sedimentology; Glaciology; Tunnel-valley; Glaciofluvial meltwater corridor; Murtoo; Småland;

    Abstract : Ice sheets are disintegrating due to global warming. One factor controlling ice-sheet behavior is the processes active beneath the ice sheet. In particular, processes connected to glacial meltwater drainage are essential to understand ice-sheets behavior in a warming climate. READ MORE

  5. 5. Ice Sheet, Climate, and Landscape Interactions in Dronning Maud Land, Antarctica

    Author : Jens-Ove Näslund; Sugden David; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Antarctica; Basal temperature; Dronning Maud Land; Erosion; Escarpments; Glacial landforms; Ice Sheets; Ice sheet modelling; Landscape development; Palaeosurfaces; Radar; Other earth sciences; Övrig geovetenskap; naturgeografi; Physical Geography;

    Abstract : The impact of glaciers and ice sheets on the subglacial landscape are of fundamental importance for studies of glacial history and landscape development, both in previously glaciated areas and in areas that are glaciated today. The thesis concerns the present and past erosive capacity of the ice sheet in Dronning Maud Land, East Antarctica. READ MORE
