  1. 1. Multilingual text generation from structured formal representations

    Author : Dana Dannélls; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Coherence; computational linguistics; coreference; corpus linguistics discourse structure; knowledge representation; language technology; lexical semantics; linked open data; multilingual natural language generation; natural language processing; ontology; semantic web.;

    Abstract : This thesis aims to identify the optimal ways in which natural language generation techniques can be brought to bear upon the problem of processing a structured body of information in order to devise a coherent presentation of text content in multiple languages. We investigate how chains of referential expressions are realized in English, Swedish and Hebrew, and suggest several coreference strategies that can be used to generate coherent descriptions about paintings. 2. 2. Age and Constraints on Language Learning : First Language Retention and Second Language Acquisition in International Adoptees

    Author : Gunnar Norrman; Emanuel Bylund Spångberg; Guillaume Thierry; Janet Werker; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; bilingualism; critical period; electroencephalography; event-related potentials; first language retention; international adoption; phonology; second language acquisition; Bilingualism; tvåspråkighet;

    Abstract : This thesis investigates the influence of age of acquisition on the long-term second language development of international adoptees. Because age of acquisition typically coincides with the onset of bilingualism, the study of maturational age effects in second language acquisition has been empirically and conceptually entangled with changes in language input and use. 3. 3. Validation of a Standard- and Metric-Based Software Quality Model

    Author : Rüdiger Lincke; Welf Löwe; Alexander Serebrenik; Växjö universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; maintainability; software quality metric; software quality model; validation; regression; correlation; Computer science; Datalogi; Computer and Information Sciences Computer Science; Data- och informationsvetenskap;

    Abstract : The automatic assessment of software quality using standard- and metric-based Software Quality Models has numerous advantages. For example, it is less error-prone, less time consuming, and neutral to human judgments compared to manual approaches. Yet, to rely on the results, the Software Quality Models need to be validated, i.e. READ MORE

  4. 4. Vowel-Zero Alternations in West Slavic Prepositions: A Corpus Based Investigation of Polish, Slovak and Czech

    Author : Morgan Nilsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; Polish; Slovak; Czech; vocalisation; prepositions; vowel-zero alternations; corpus; phonology.;

    Abstract : The aim of this thesis is to investigate the scope of the vowel―zero alternations in prepositions in the three major West Slavic languages, i.e. Polish, Slovak and Czech, and to formulate, within the Government Phonology framework, the general phonological principles responsible for the majority of these alternations. 5. 5. Segmenting and Tagging Text with Neural Networks

    Author : Yan Shao; Joakim Nivre; Jörg Tiedemann; Christian Hardmeier; Yue Zhang; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; neural networks; sequence labelling; multilinguality; word segmentation; sentence segmentation; morpheme segmentation; transliteration; joint word segmentation and POS tagging;

    Abstract : Segmentation and tagging of text are important preprocessing steps for higher-level natural language processing tasks. In this thesis, we apply a sequence labelling framework based on neural networks to various segmentation and tagging tasks, including sentence segmentation, word segmentation, morpheme segmentation, joint word segmentation and part-of-speech tagging, and named entity transliteration.
