  1. 1. Statistical Downscaling of Precipitation from Large-scale Atmospheric Circulation : Comparison of Methods and Climate Regions

    Author : Fredrik Wetterhall; Sven Halldin; Chong-Yu Xu; Lars-Christer Lundin; Deliang Chen; Hans von Storch; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Hydrology; Statistical; Downscaling; Precipitation; Large-scale circulation; PCA; TWS; Weather pattern; Regression; Weather generator; Hydrologi; Hydrology; Hydrologi;

    Abstract : A global climate change may have large impacts on water resources on regional and global scales. General circulation models (GCMs) are the most used tools to evaluate climate-change scenarios on a global scale. They are, however, insufficiently describing the effects at the local scale. 2. 2. Large-scale Bioreactor Phenomena and Characteristics; Effects on E.coli fed batch fermentations on 30m3 scale

    Author : Gustav Silfversparre; KTH; []
    Keywords : Large-scale; E.coli; fed batch; concentration gradients; mixing;

    Abstract : Due to economical and practical limitations the fluiddynamics and mass transport properties are less optimal inlarge-scale bioreactors compared to lab-scale bioreactors. Incombination with the microbial reaction rates this creates amuch more dynamic environment for cells cultivated inlarge-scale bioreactors compared to lab-scale bioreactors. READ MORE

  3. 3. Observing and Modeling Precipitation in the Tibetan Plateau region - from large-scale processes to convective storms

    Author : Julia Kukulies; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Tibetan Plateau; Water cycle; Precipitation; Climate modeling; Mesoscale convective systems; Large-scale atmospheric circulation;

    Abstract : Climate change in mountain regions has far-reaching societal impacts such as increased risks for natural hazards and water scarcity that may affect billions of people in the downstream regions. Precipitation changes play a critical role in these impacts due to their effects on river runoff and flooding. READ MORE

  4. 4. The Arctic Atmosphere : Interactions between clouds, boundary-layer turbulence and large-scale circulation

    Author : Georgia Sotiropoulou; Michael Tjernström; Joseph Sedlar; Susanne Crewell; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Arctic; mixed-phase clouds; thermodynamic structure; Arctic inversion; cloud-surface interactions; seasonal transition; IFS model; LES; atmosfärvetenskap och oceanografi; Atmospheric Sciences and Oceanography;

    Abstract : Arctic climate is changing fast, but weather forecast and climate models have serious deficiencies in representing the Arctic atmosphere, because of the special conditions that occur in this region. The cold ice surface and the advection of warm air aloft from the south result in a semi-continuous presence of a temperature inversion, known as the “Arctic inversion”, which is governed by interacting large-scale and local processes, such as surface fluxes and cloud formation. 5. 5. Interactions between aerosols and large-scale circulation systems in the atmosphere

    Author : Anna Lewinschal; Annica M. L. Ekman; Heiner Körnich; Jouni Räisänen; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; atmosfärvetenskap och oceanografi; Atmospheric Sciences and Oceanography;

    Abstract : Anthropogenic aerosol emissions have increased during the last century. The higher atmospheric aerosol burden is believed to partly have masked the enhanced greenhouse gas warming during the same period. READ MORE
