  1. 11. Development of laser spectroscopy for scattering media applications

    Author : Mats Andersson; Atomfysik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Laserteknik; Laser technology; Atom- och molekylärfysik; Atomic and molecular physics; Fysik; Physics; coherent sampling; optical sensor; light absorption; noninvasive measurement; diode laser; scattering of light; laser spectroscopy; fluorescence spectroscopy; remote sensing; Lidar; DIAL;

    Abstract : Laser spectroscopy for both large and small spatial scales has been developed and used in various applications ranging from remote monitoring of atmospheric mercury in Spain to investigation of oxygen contents in wood, human sinuses, fruit, and pharmaceutical solids. Historically, the lidar group in Lund has performed many differential absorption lidar (DIAL) measurements with a mobile lidar system that was first described in 1987. READ MORE

  2. 12. Adhesion to machined and laser ablated wood surfaces

    Author : Micael Stehr; KTH; []
    Keywords : LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; ablation; adhesion; checks; coating; cracks; excimer laser; gluing; IR laser; mechanical machining; mechanical weak boundary layer; microscopy; notched specimens; pine; planing; sample preparation; sawing; scanning electronmicroscopy; spruce; tip-cracks; UV laser; weak boundary layer; wood;

    Abstract : This thesis is a contribution to the R&D-program ValueActivation at KTH,Division of Wood Technology and Processingand containsfive papers related to the evaluation and development ofmachining techniques (mechanical and irradiation treatments)whereby weak boundaries at the wood surfaces in the form of(mechanical) weak boundary layers and (micro) cracks due tomechanical treatment can be avoided.The first paper describes the development of a method–using a UV laser–to study the mechanically weakenedboundaries. 3. 13. Blue Laser Source for Laser-Induced Fluorescence

    Author : Jesper Holm; Atomfysik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Second Harmonic Generation; Lasers; PPKTP; ALA; Tapered laser diodes; External cavity lasers; Laser-induced fluorescence; photodynamic therapy; mTHPC;

    Abstract : Laser-induced fluorescence is a clinical diagnostic tool, used for tumor demarcation and detection. The technique relies on the injection or topical application of a light sensitive drug called a photosensitizer. This substance has the ability to be accumulated to higher concentrations in cancer cells than in normal cells. READ MORE

  4. 14. Combustion Studies of Soot and Fuel Based on Use of Laser Diagnostics

    Author : Boman Axelsson; Förbränningsfysik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Laser Diagnostics; Laser Induced Fluorescence; Soot; Physics; Fysik; Laser technology; Motors and propulsion systems; Laserteknik; Laser-Induced Incandescence; Motorer; framdrivningssystem; Fysicumarkivet A:2002:Axelsson;

    Abstract : In the work described in the present thesis, laser techniques for combustion engine diagnostics were developed and applied. The main techniques were laser-induced incandescence (LII) and laser-induced fluorescence (LIF), used for both flame and engine diagnostics. READ MORE

  5. 15. Laser-based absorption spectrometry : development of NICE-OHMS towards ultra-sensitive trace species detection

    Author : Florian Schmidt; Ove Axner; Livio Gianfrani; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; absorption spectrometry; trace species detection; fiber laser; modulation; cavity-enhanced spectroscopy; optical saturation; laser frequency stabilization; free-spectral-range; Physics; Fysik;

    Abstract : Laser-based absorption spectroscopy (AS) is a powerful technique for qualitative and quantitative studies of atoms and molecules. An important field of use of AS is the detection of species in trace concentrations, which has applications not only in physics and chemistry but also in biology and medicine, encompassing environmental monitoring, regulation of industrial processes and breath analysis.
