  1. 1. Novel Technologies for Mode-Locking of Solid-State Lasers

    Author : Niels Meiser; Valdas Pasiskevicius; Steinmeyer Günter; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; laser; mode-locked laser; pulsed laser; quantum dot; carbon nanotube; nonlinear optics; saturable absorber; Kerr-lens mode-locking; ultra-fast laser; picosecond laser; pulsed laser; semiconductor saturable absorber;

    Abstract : The subject of this thesis is the investigation of novel technologies for mode-locking of diode-pumped, solid-state lasers. Novel saturable absorbers are used: quantum dots (QDs) and carbon nanotubes (CNTs), which both are low-dimensional nano-formations. In addition, mode-locking by cascaded nonlinearities is explored. 2. 2. Diffractive Optics Design

    Author : Jörgen Bengtsson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; computer-generated waveguide hologram; diffractive optics; fan-out; millimeter wave radiation; proximity effect; optimal-rotation-angle method; kinoform; integrated optics; beam shaping; outcoupling grating; scalar optics;

    Abstract : Diffractive optical elements (kinoforms) change the way light propagates, and can perform very complex tasks. They can split an incident beam into any number of outgoing, and possibly focused, beams (fan-out). READ MORE

  3. 3. Laser spectroscopic analysis of atmospheric gases in scattering media

    Author : Mikael Sjöholm; Atomfysik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Fjärranalys; Remote sensing; Laser spectroscop; Scattering of light; Diode lasers; acoustics; optics; Electromagnetism; optik; akustik; Elektromagnetism; Optical absorption; Nondestructive testing: optical; Interdisciplinary applications of physics; Laser technology; Atom- och molekylärfysik; Atomic and molecular physics; LIDAR remote sensing; Laserteknik;

    Abstract : Laser spectroscopic techniques for gas analysis under various influences of light scattering are explored in a wide spectral range from the ultraviolet to the infrared. The techniques rely on spectrally narrow-band light sources that are used in differential optical absorption measurements. READ MORE

  4. 4. Development and Application of Single-Ended Picosecond Laser Diagnostics

    Author : Billy Kaldvee; Förbränningsfysik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Raman Scattering; Temporal Filtering; Picosecond Laser Diagnostics; Rayleigh Scattering; Laser-spectroscopy; DIAL; Laser Combustion Diagnostics; Lidar; Laser-induced Fluorescence; Laser-induced Incandescence; Fysicumarkivet A:2012:Kaldvee;

    Abstract : Light detection and ranging (lidar), a method for nonintrusive, single-ended, and range resolved measurements, has been developed and applied for combustion related diagnostics. Employing picosecond laser pulse durations and detectors providing temporal resolution on the order of picoseconds, lidar has been applied successfully for both quantitative temperature- and species concentration measurements, obtaining an ultimate range resolution of 0. 5. 5. KNOW YOUR ENEMY : Characterizing Pathogenic Biomaterials Using Laser Tweezers

    Author : Tobias Dahlberg; Magnus Andersson; Krister Wiklund; Mikael Sjödahl; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Optical Tweezers; Laser Tweezers; Raman Spectroscopy; Bacterial Adhesion; Biophysics; Pili; Bacterial Spores; Endospores; Oocysts; Cryptosporidium; Optics; biology; biologi; fysik; Physics;

    Abstract : Diseases caused by pathogenic agents such as bacteria and viruses result in devastating costs on personal and societal levels. However, it is not just the emergence of new diseases that is problematic. Antibiotic resistance among bacteria makes uncomplicated infections difficult and lethal. READ MORE
