  1. 1. NMR diffusion studies on lyotropic liquid crystalline systems

    University dissertation from Umeå : Umeå universitet

    Author : Greger Orädd; Umeå universitet.; [1994]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Diffusion; pulsed field gradient; liquid crystalline systems; lipid lateral diffusion; cubic phases; peptide-lipid interactions; hydrophobic mismatch; permeability;

    Abstract : The pulsed field gradient fourier transform nuclear magnetic resonance (PFG-FTNMR) method to measure translational diffusion coefficients in multicomponent systems has been applied to amphiphilic molecules forming liquid crystalline phases.By analyzing the concentration dependence of the diffusion coefficients of water and amphiphile in a micellar system of N,N-dimethyldodecy lamine oxide (DDAO) in water it was possible to conclude that the micelles formed were polydisperse in size and shape. 3. 3. Electrochemical Studies of Redox Properties and Diffusion in Self-Assembled Systems

    University dissertation from Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Author : Johan Kostela; Uppsala universitet.; [2004]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURAL SCIENCES Chemistry Physical chemistry; NATURVETENSKAP Kemi Fysikalisk kemi; Physical chemistry; electrochemistry; self-assembly; bicontinuos cubic phase; redox potential; diffusion; Fysikalisk kemi;

    Abstract : In this thesis electron transfer reactions and diffusion of redox molecules in three different types of self-aggregated structures are investigated. Electrochemistry was used to investigate the redox potential and diffusion coefficients for redox active molecules with different polarity. The first aggregate system studied was the micellar phase. 4. 4. Biophysical studies of cell membrane receptors for the growth factors PDGP and EGF : Aspects on lateral and aggregation

    University dissertation from Linköping : Linköpings universitet

    Author : Pia Ljungquist-Höddelius; Linköpings universitet.; Linköpings universitet.; [1994]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : When extracellular growth factors bind to their specific cell surface receptors, they elicit a cascade of biochemical events, including tyrosine kinase-mediated phosphorylation and changes in intracellular free ca2+, leading to cell differentiation and proliferation. However, direct effects of ligand-binding on the receptors are poorly understood. READ MORE

  5. 5. Mathematical Models in Cellular Biophysics

    University dissertation from Stockholm : KTH

    Author : Jacob Kowalewski; KTH.; [2007]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Calcium oscillations; Diffusion; Dopamine receptors; Mathematical models; Computer simulations; FRAP; NATURAL SCIENCES Physics; NATURVETENSKAP Fysik;

    Abstract : Cellular biophysics deals with, among other things, transport processes within cells. This thesis presents two studies where mathematical models have been used to explain how two of these processes occur.Cellular membranes separate cells from their exterior environment and also divide a cell into several subcellular regions.
