  1. 16. Manifolds in Image Science and Visualization

    Author : Anders Brun; Hans Knutsson; Magnus Herberthson; Carl-Fredrik Westin; Roland Wilson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; manifold learning; image analysis; signal processing; diffusion tensor mri; Medical engineering; Medicinsk teknik;

    Abstract : A Riemannian manifold is a mathematical concept that generalizes curved surfaces to higher dimensions, giving a precise meaning to concepts like angle, length, area, volume and curvature. A glimpse of the consequences of a non-flat geometry is given on the sphere, where the shortest path between two points – a geodesic – is along a great circle. READ MORE

  2. 17. Migration of molecules in the brain : focus on the extracellular space and the cerebrospinal fluid

    Author : Malin Höistad; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Volume transmission; rat; diffusion; striatum; dual-probe microdialysis; delivery; recovery; clearance; uptake; dopamine; metabolism; radiotracer; mannitol; cisterna magna; opioids; peptides; betaendorphin; mu-opioid receptors; mismatch; TH; DBH; immunohistochemistry; fear.;

    Abstract : Three different molecules and three different experimental models were used to study the migration of molecules in the rat brain: a neurotransmitter- dopamine, an extracellular market- mannitol, and a neuropeptide beta-endorphin. Two models in vivo were used to study the diffusion and migration of molecules: dual-probe rnicrodialysis in the striatum, and direct intrastriatal microinjections followed by cerebrospinal fluid sampling from the cisterna magna. 3. 18. Effects of neutrophil activation and differentiation on membrane receptor mobility

    Author : Birgitta Johansson; Nils Petersen; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : The human neutrophils comprise the first line of defence against invading microorganisms. Activation of membrane receptors for bacterial nformyl peptides, exemplified by formylmethionyl-leucyl phenylalanine (fMLF), and complement cleavage products are instrumental for neutrophil chemotaxis, phagocytosis and activation of the NADPH oxidase, generating reactive oxygen metabolites. 4. 19. On the Convective-Scale Predictability of the Atmosphere

    Author : Lisa Bengtsson; Gunilla Svensson; Glenn Shutts; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Cumulus convection; cellular automata; model uncertainty; sub-grid scale processes; numerical weather prediction; atmosfärvetenskap och oceanografi; Atmospheric Sciences and Oceanography;

    Abstract : A well-represented description of convection in weather and climate models is essential since convective clouds strongly influence the climate system. Convective processes interact with radiation, redistribute sensible and latent heat and momentum, and impact hydrological processes through precipitation. READ MORE

  5. 20. Coriolis generated secondary currents and their effects on turbulent channel flow

    Author : Rolf Larsson; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Vattenteknik; Water Resources Engineering;

    Abstract : The influence of secondary currents on various hydrodynamic processes in channel flow is discussed. Different mechanisms that generate secondary currents are presented. READ MORE
