16. Manifolds in Image Science and Visualization
Abstract : A Riemannian manifold is a mathematical concept that generalizes curved surfaces to higher dimensions, giving a precise meaning to concepts like angle, length, area, volume and curvature. A glimpse of the consequences of a non-flat geometry is given on the sphere, where the shortest path between two points – a geodesic – is along a great circle. READ MORE

17. Migration of molecules in the brain : focus on the extracellular space and the cerebrospinal fluid
Abstract : Three different molecules and three different experimental models were used to study the migration of molecules in the rat brain: a neurotransmitter- dopamine, an extracellular market- mannitol, and a neuropeptide beta-endorphin. Two models in vivo were used to study the diffusion and migration of molecules: dual-probe rnicrodialysis in the striatum, and direct intrastriatal microinjections followed by cerebrospinal fluid sampling from the cisterna magna. 18. Effects of neutrophil activation and differentiation on membrane receptor mobility
Abstract : The human neutrophils comprise the first line of defence against invading microorganisms. Activation of membrane receptors for bacterial nformyl peptides, exemplified by formylmethionyl-leucyl phenylalanine (fMLF), and complement cleavage products are instrumental for neutrophil chemotaxis, phagocytosis and activation of the NADPH oxidase, generating reactive oxygen metabolites. 19. On the Convective-Scale Predictability of the Atmosphere
Abstract : A well-represented description of convection in weather and climate models is essential since convective clouds strongly influence the climate system. Convective processes interact with radiation, redistribute sensible and latent heat and momentum, and impact hydrological processes through precipitation. READ MORE

20. Coriolis generated secondary currents and their effects on turbulent channel flow
Abstract : The influence of secondary currents on various hydrodynamic processes in channel flow is discussed. Different mechanisms that generate secondary currents are presented. READ MORE
