  1. 1. Lateral epicondylitis : intramuscular blood flow, pressure and metabolism in the ECRB muscle

    Author : Eva Oskarsson; Karin Piehl Aulin; Eva Nylander; Örebro universitet; []
    Keywords : Lateral epicondylitis; ECRB; intramuscular microcirculation; intramuscular pressure; botulinum toxin; muscle metabolism; pain; MEDICINE; MEDICIN; Idrottsvetenskap; Sports Science;

    Abstract : Lateral epicondylitis is classified as an overuse injury and the main symptom is pain from the lateral side of the elbow. There is general agreement that the extensor carpi radialis brevis (ECRB) muscle and its proximal tendon play a central role in the development of lateral epicondylitis. However, the pathophysiology is to a large extent unclear. READ MORE

  2. 2. Simulation of individual cells in flow

    Author : Lailai Zhu; Luca Brandt; Michael Graham; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Hydrodynamic interaction; swimming microorganisms; capsule; Stokes flow; finite element method; boundary integral method; general geometry Ewald method; spectral element method; viscoelastic fluid; cellular deformation; flow cytometry; cell sorting; microrheology; Teknisk mekanik; Engineering Mechanics;

    Abstract : In this thesis, simulations are performed to study the motion ofindividual cells in flow, focusing on the hydrodynamics of actively swimming cells likethe self-propelling microorganisms, and of passively advected objects like the red bloodcells. In particular, we develop numerical tools to address the locomotion ofmicroswimmers in viscoelastic fluids and complex geometries, as well as the motion ofdeformable capsules in micro-fluidic flows. 3. 3. Unpacking the Flow : Knowledge Transfer in MNCs

    Author : Magnus Persson; Mats Forsgren; Ulf Andersson; Ram Mudambi; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Business studies; Knowledge transfer; Innovation; Multinational corporations; Technology; Subsidiary; Företagsekonomi; Business studies; Företagsekonomi;

    Abstract : Multinational corporations (MNCs) are increasingly competing on their ability to utilise knowledge sourced from various parts of the world. In order to draw full advantage of a multinational presence, harnessing the potential of peripheral knowledge assets is a main strategic imperative. READ MORE

  4. 4. Lateral mixing of solids in bubbling fluidized beds – experimental quantification

    Author : Erik Sette; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; solids cross-flow; lateral dispersion; Solids mixing; fluid-dynamic scaling;

    Abstract : For solid fuels, thermochemical conversion processes such as combustion and gasification are especially suitable to be carried out in fluidized bed units because of the relatively high mixing rates, fuel flexibility and the possibility to use active bed material to enhance process efficiency. Fuels such as biomass and waste, which are commonly used in fluidized beds, are characterized by volatile contents much higher than what is found in fossil fuels such as coal. READ MORE

  5. 5. Lateral movements versus stationarity : adaptive alternatives in benthic invertebrates to the seasonal environment in a boreal river

    Author : Tommy I. Olsson; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Benthic invertebrates; cold-hardiness; ice; migrations; overwintering; river; seasonal variations; spatial distribution; spring flood; water level;

    Abstract : Benthic invertebrates inhabiting boreal rivers are exposed to very large seasonal variations in their physical environment. The extremes are in winter when the littoral area freezes solid and in spring when water flow increases rapidly. READ MORE
