  1. 1. SEQUENCE AND DISPERSION OF VENTRICULAR REPOLARIZATION ON THE ENDOCARDIUM AND EPICARDIUM Studies using the monophasic action potential mapping technique in humans and pigs

    Author : Ole Kongstad Rasmussen; Kardiologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cardiovascular system; Kardiovaskulära systemet; ventricle; epicardium; endocardium; Monophasic action potential mapping Repolarization sequence; Global dispersion;

    Abstract : Materials and Methods: Monophasic action potential (MAP) were recorded, using the CARTO mapping system and NaviStar catheters, during sinus rhythm from the endocardium at 43 ± 15 LV or RV sites in 8 patients, at 61 ± 18 LV and/or RV sites in 10 pigs and during atrial pacing from the endo- and epicardium at 211 ± 54 LV and RV sites in additional 10 pigs. Local activation time (AT), MAP duration (MAPd) and end-of-repolarization time (EOR) were calculated at each site and 3-dimensional maps of AT, EOR and MAP duration on the endo- and epicardium were obtained. 2. 2. GDNF and alpha-synuclein in nigrostriatal degeneration

    Author : Maria Chermenina; Ingrid Strömberg; Guido Nikkhah; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Parkinson s disease; GDNF; ventral mesencephalon; lateral ganglionic eminence; alpha-synuclein; medicinsk utvecklings- och neurobiologi; Developmental Neurosciences;

    Abstract : Parkinson’s disease is a common neurological disorder with a complex etiology. The disease is characterized by a progressive loss of dopaminergic cells in the substantia nigra, which leads to motor function and sometimes cognitive function disabilities. READ MORE

    Abstract : Obesity is a disease which has become a global epidemic that is beginning to replace undernutrition and infectious diseases as the most significant contributor to ill health in the world. In particular, obesity is associated with diabetes mellitus, hypertension and coronary heart disease. READ MORE

  4. 4. Three-dimensional assessment of cardiac function; When right is wrong

    Author : Ellen Ostenfeld; Lund Klinisk fysiologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Key words Three-dimensional echocardiography; cardiac magnetic resonance imaging; cardiac function; volumes; atria; ventricles; pulmonary hypertension; right heart catheterization; right ventricular pressure load.;

    Abstract : Assessment of the right side of the heart is important in patients with heart disease; especially in patient with elevated pressure in the lung circulation. Decreased right ventricular function and elevated pressure in the right atrium are of poor prognostic value. READ MORE

  5. 5. Left atrial function in health and disease

    Author : Mark Henein; Per Lindqvist; Stellan Mörner; Reidar Winter; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Left atrium; Doppler echocardiography; atrial interaction; atrial pressure;

    Abstract : The Objectives of this thesis are:1) To study possible atrial interaction in patients with right and left ventricular outflow tract obstruction due to significant pulmonary (PS) and aortic valve stenosis (AS), respectively.2) To assess left atrial (LA) intrinsic myocardial function and its relationship to indirect measures of left ventricular (LV) filling pressures in patients with paroxysmal atrial fibrillation (PAF).
