  1. 1. Lateralization of human olfaction cognitive functions and electrophysiology

    University dissertation from Umeå : Psykologi

    Author : Daniel Broman; Steven Nordin; Matthias Laska; [2006]
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Human olfaction; Laterality; Olfactory processes; Odor familiarity; Odor identification; OERP; SOCIAL SCIENCES Social sciences Psychology; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP Socialvetenskap Psykologi;

    Abstract : In this thesis lateralization of olfactory functions was investigated by both behavioral and electrophysiological assessment, the latter with the olfactory event-related potential (OERP) technique. The olfactory sense is primarily ipsilateral in that a stimulus that is presented to one nostril is initially processed in the same hemisphere. READ MORE

  2. 2. Development of functional asymmetries in young infants A sensory-motor approach

    University dissertation from Umeå : institutionen för psykologi, Umeå universitet

    Author : Erik Domellöf; Louise Rönnqvist; Jacqueline Fagard; [2006]
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Laterality; development; handedness; human infant; stepping response; placing response; head turning; arm movement; reaching; kinematic parameters; intralimb coordination; SOCIAL SCIENCES Social sciences Psychology; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP Socialvetenskap Psykologi;

    Abstract : Human functional laterality, typically involving a right-sided preference in most sensory-motor activities, is still a poorly understood issue. This is perhaps particularly true in terms of what underlying mechanisms that may govern lateral biases, as well as the developmental origins and course of events. READ MORE

  3. 3. Stroke in geriatric patients - Aspects of depression, cognition and motor activity

    University dissertation from Med Clin, University Hospital of Lund

    Author : Berit Agrell; [1998]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; stroke; laterality; rating scales; motoractivity; aphasia; neglect; disability; depression; cognition; Neurology; neuropsychology; neurophysiology; Neurologi; neuropsykologi; neurofysiologi;

    Abstract : Six depression rating scales, GDS, Zung, CES-D, CPRS-D and Cornell, were compared in 40 patients. The validity was good for all scales except for the Cornell scale. A comprehensive investigation was done in 116 elderly stroke patients. There was no difference in prevalence and severity of post-stroke depression in relation to side of lesion. READ MORE

  4. 4. Depot neuroleptic maintenance treatment: clinical, pharmacological and neuropsychological aspects

    University dissertation from Psychiatry

    Author : Eva Tuninger; [1997]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; clinical psychology; Psychiatry; laterality.; chronic psychosis; schizophrenia; outcome; maintenance treatment; follow-up; longitudinal; neuropsychology; SPECT; auditory hallucinations; dopamine receptor occupancy; psychosomatics; Psykiatri; klinisk psykologi; psykosomatik;

    Abstract : Neuroleptic maintenance treatment is effective to reduce the risk of further episodes of schizophrenia and other chronic psychoses, except affective. Lack of insight often lead to poor compliance to the prescripted medication. Then, neuroleptics might be given as depot injections. READ MORE

  5. 5. To select one hand while using both neural mechanisms supporting flexible hand dominance in bimanual object manipulation

    University dissertation from Umeå : Umeå university

    Author : Anna Theorin; Roland Johansson; Fredrik Ullén; [2009]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; object manipulation; bimanual coordination; action selection; cerebral cortex; functional laterality; humans; hand; magnetic resonance imaging; transcranial magnetic stimulation; electromyography; MEDICINE Physiology and pharmacology Physiology; MEDICIN Fysiologi och farmakologi Fysiologi; fysiologi; Physiology;

    Abstract : In daily activities, the brain regularly assigns different roles to the hands dependingon task and context. Yet, little is known about the underlying neural processes. Thiscertainly applies to how the brain, where each hemisphere primarily controls onehand, manages the between-hand coordination required in bimanual objectmanipulation. READ MORE
