  1. 1. Lipoproteomics : A New Approach to the Identification and Characterization of Proteins in LDL and HDL

    Author : Helen Karlsson; Mats Lindahl; Christer Tagesson; Pia Davidsson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; LDL; HDL; Proteomik; Atheroskleros; Masspektrometri; 2-DE; Molecular medicine; Molekylär medicin;

    Abstract : A proteomic approach was applied to examine the protein composition of low-density lipoprotein (LDL) and high-density lipoprotein (HDL) in humans. LDL and HDL were isolated by density gradient ultracentrifugation, and proteins were separated with twodimensional gel electrophoresis (2-DE) and identified with peptide mass fingerprinting, using matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization-time of flight mass spectrometry, and with amino acid sequencing using electrospray ionization tandem mass spectrometry. 2. 2. Studies on the atherogenicity of apoB-containing lipoproteins in type 2 diabetes

    Author : Camilla Pettersson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : Type 2 diabetes; metabolic syndrome; atherosclerosis; VLDL; LDL; secretory phospholipase A2 group V; inflammation; complement; apolipoprotein; lysozyme;

    Abstract : Type 2 diabetes (T2D) and the metabolic syndrome (MetS), two conditions that are rapidly increasing in prevalence, as well as the dyslipoproteinemia and subclinical inflammation characteristic for these conditions, are associated with an increased risk for developing and dying of cardiovascular disease (CVD). The aim of this thesis was to investigate possible atherogenic properties of very low-density lipoprotein (VLDL) and low-density lipoprotein (LDL) in T2D and MetS. READ MORE

  3. 3. Atherogenic lipoproteins and their interaction with proteoglycans

    Author : Christofer Flood; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : apolipoprotein B; atherosclerosis; LDL; proteoglycan; sPLA2; ; retention;

    Abstract : Atherosclerosis is a multi-factorial disease and its pathogenesis is still unclear. However, accumulating evidence during recent years has led to the concept that subendothelial retention of atherogenic lipoproteins is the initiating event in atherogenesis. READ MORE

  4. 4. Retention of atherogenic lipoproteins in atherogenesis

    Author : Maria Gustafsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : apolipoprotein B; atherosclerosis; LDL; LpL; proteoglycans; retention; sPLA2;

    Abstract : Atherosclerosis is the most common cause of death in the industrialized world. The diseaseis characterized by lipid accumulation and inflammation in the arterial wall, which may leadto obstruction of the blood flow. READ MORE

  5. 5. Lipoprotein(a) in cardiovascular disease

    Author : Ulf Lundstam; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : atherosclerosis; Lipoprotein a ; LDL; extracellular matrix; women;

    Abstract : The atherosclerotic process is continuous and starts early in life. Risk factors for atherosclerosis include hyperlipidemia, hypertension, smoking and diabetes mellitus. Fatty streaks characterised by lipid-laden macrophages are early signs of atherosclerosis. READ MORE
