  1. 16. Antioxidative Properties of Herring (Clupea harengus) Press Juice in Food, In Vitro and In Vivo Model Systems

    Author : Thippeswamy Sannaveerappa; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; antioxidants; monocytes; washed cod mince; Clupea harengus; LDL oxidation; press juice; oxidation; ORAC; hemoglobin; alpha-tocopherol; herring; in vitro digestion.;

    Abstract : Some species like herring (Clupea harengus) are currently under-utilized due to their small size, dark colour and susceptibility to lipid oxidation. Our hypothesis has been that the high susceptibility of herring to oxidation makes it well equipped with natural antioxidants, both fat and water soluble ones. READ MORE

  2. 17. Effects of hypoxia on macrophage function in atherosclerosis

    Author : Ellen Knutsen Rydberg; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : atherosclerosis; hypoxia; macrophage; IL-8; oxidized LDL; oxysterols; 15-lipoxygenase-2;

    Abstract : Atherosclerosis is a complex disease, which affects large and medium sized arteries and is characterized by an arterial wall thickening. A constant supply of oxygen is needed to maintain cell functions in the atherosclerotic plaque. The oxygen distribution to the cells in the arterial wall depends on diffusion. READ MORE

  3. 18. Studies on Cell Injury Induced by Hypoxia-Reoxygenation and Oxidized Low Density Lipoprotein : With Special Reference to the Protectiove Effect of Mixed Tocopherols, Omega-3 Fatty Acids and Transforming Growth Factor-beta1

    Author : Hongjiang Chen; Tom Saldeen; Christer Sylven; Uppsala universitet; []

    Abstract : Hypoxia-reoxygenation (H-R) injury is an important clinical phenomenon in patients with coronary artery disease (CAD). Endothelial injury is a critical step in the initiation and progression of atherosclerosis. Therefore, endothelial and cardiomyocyte protection has been considered an effective step in prevention and treatment of CAD. READ MORE

  4. 19. The Force of Blood : Epidemiological studies of blood pressure in stroke, atrial fibrillation and primary care

    Author : Johan-Emil Bager; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; epidemiology; blood pressure; hypertension; stroke; myocardial infarction; atrial fibrillation; anticoagulants; LDL cholesterol; primary health care;

    Abstract : Aim: The overarching aim of this thesis was to investigate the prevalence, temporal trends and associations to cardiovascular outcomes of blood pressure levels in patients in Västra Götaland. Methods and findings: In Study I, Cox regression analysis was used to investigate associations between blood pressure and mortality in 799 patients with acute ischemic stroke who were identified in the quality register of a stroke ward at Sahlgrenska University Hospital.
