  1. 6. Lipids and Endothelium-Dependent Vasodilation

    Author : Peter Steer; Lars Lind; Per Tornvall; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Medicine; Atherosclerosis; endothelium; vasodilation; nitric oxide; fatty acid; meal; diet; lipoprotein; cyclooxygenase; diclophenac; L-arginine; LDL; human; Medicin; Dermatology and venerology; clinical genetics; internal medicine; Dermatologi och venerologi; klinisk genetik; invärtesmedicin; Internal Medicine; Internmedicin;

    Abstract : Impaired endothelium-dependent vasodilation (EDV) is associated with atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease as well as several of its risk factors. The aim of the present thesis was to investigate how lipids influence EDV in the vascular bed of the human forearm. READ MORE

  2. 7. Mechanisms and treatment options of chronic graft dysfunction : Experimental and clinical studies

    Author : Lilija Zezina; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Medical sciences; chronic graft dysfunction; kidney transplantation; aorta transplantation; lipid oxidation; LDL; TGF-beta; Smad2; angiotensin II receptor; treatment; MEDICIN OCH VÅRD; MEDICINE; MEDICIN; Medicine; medicin;

    Abstract : Chronic graft dysfunction (CGD) is an important post-transplant complication. CGD can be considered as an impaired repair process, which ultimately leads to the loss of graft function.To study non-immunological factors contributing to the development of CGD in kidney grafts we used in vitro and in vivo models, and clinical studies. 3. 8. Biomolecules at Interfaces -Studied by Surface and Solution Techniques

    Author : Anna Bergstrand; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; LDL; sepsis; PEG; LPS; lipopolysaccharide; QCM-D; SPR;

    Abstract : The interfacial behaviour of biomolecules in general and proteins in particular is interesting from a biochemical point of view since proteins are involved in processes such as complement activation, blood coagulation and atherosclerotic plaque formation, but also in the context of biomedical applications such as solid-phase diagnostics, therapeutic aphaeresis and biosensors. The objective of this thesis is to study biomolecular interactions using surface sensitive biosensor techniques such as surface plasmon resonance, SPR, in combination with bulk techniques. READ MORE

  4. 9. Transforming growth factor-ß. Signal regulation in health and disease

    Author : Urban Molander; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : TGF-b; BMP; Smad; signal transduction; LDL; skin tumour; mesangial;

    Abstract : TGF-b superfamily members have been shown to play a pivotal role in multicellular organisms. Knowledge about signal transduction pathways is important in order to understand and cure diseases like cancer where TGF-b´s growth inhibitory signal often are disenabled via mutated or absent signalling components. 5. 10. Lipoproteomics : mapping of proteins in LDL and HDL

    Author : Helen Karlsson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : High-density lipoprotein (HDL) and (LDL)-density lipoprotein (LDL) are important lipoprotein fractions in human plasma. HDL is the most abundant lipoprotein particle and a negative risk factor of atherosclerosis while LDL is considered to possess atherogenic properties. READ MORE
